Embracing the Spirit of Lent in Our School Community

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we enter the season of Lent, we focus on a period of reflection, repentance, and spiritual growth. Lent provides us with a valuable opportunity to pause and strengthen our connection with our faith and each other.

Lent is a time of sacrifice and self-discipline, mirroring the 40 days that Jesus spent fasting in the desert. It is a season that calls us to reevaluate our priorities, to deepen our spiritual lives, and to engage in acts of kindness, charity, and forgiveness. As a school community, let us embrace the true essence of Lent and incorporate its teachings into our daily lives.

Here are some ways in which we can observe Lent within our school community:

Prayer and Reflection: Encourage one another to take a few moments each day for prayer and reflection. Whether individually or collectively, this practice can foster a sense of mindfulness and gratitude.

Acts of Kindness: Challenge each other to perform intentional acts of kindness throughout the season. Small gestures of compassion and understanding can have a profound impact on our community and beyond.

Fasting and Abstinence: While fasting traditionally involves abstaining from certain foods, consider encouraging alternative forms of fasting such as giving up a bad habit, limiting screen time, or refraining from negative speech. This practice can lead to personal growth and self-discipline.

Community Service: volunteer in our school or the wider community  to give back to those in need. Acts of service not only benefit others but also provide a sense of fulfillment and purpose.

Lenten Reflection Events: participate in  prayer services or reflections that bring the school community together to share in the spirit of Lent. These gatherings can serve as a source of support and inspiration for everyone involved. Ash Wednesday Mass will be on Wednesday next week at 12:00pm

In embracing the spirit of Lent, we strengthen the bonds that unite us as a school community and deepen our commitment to the values that guide us. Let us use this season as an opportunity for growth, reflection, and a collective renewal of our shared purpose.

May the blessings of Lent be with each and every one of you.

Regards,

Brian Martin
