Grade Bulletin - Term Two, 2025

Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Primary School provides a range of holistic learning experiences to enable students to:

Religious Education

Easter

During the first two weeks, the students will explore the disciples’ experience of the Resurrection and Ascension of Jesus. The unit explores the feast days, scripture and prayers that reveal our belief in everlasting life. 

 

Scripture and Jesus

In this unit, students explore the significance of the Synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark and Luke) and how the writers portray Jesus. Students will come to recognise the Gospels are a record of Christ’s life and teaching. Students will analyse passages that are common across the synoptic Gospels. They will come to recognise and understand that the synoptic Gospels, as sacred texts, help us encounter the person of Jesus Christ and deepen our relationship with God. Students will become confident users of the Bible as they explore a range of passages in the synoptic Gospels.  

English

Creating written texts and understanding and responding to literature

This term, students will learn how authors create engaging narratives through the development of descriptive settings, characters and developing action. They will identify common narrative conventions and patterns and recognise when these patterns are subverted. Students will make connections to the novel Home to Mother by Doris Pilkington Garimara through their own personal and common lived experiences. 

 

Reading Comprehension

This year, each class will explore a different novel each term. In Term 2, 6 Gold will read ‘Two Wolves’ by Tristan Bancks, 6 Blue will read ‘Wonder’ by R.J. Palacio and 6 White will read ‘Parvana’ by Deborah Ellis. Students will develop their fluency skills and comprehension of texts for a wide purpose by analysing structures and language and monitoring their comprehension. 

 

Spelling 

Students will be following the Soundwaves spelling program and will have the opportunity to revise their spelling skills using the online component of the program.

Mathematics

Mathematics lessons will be taught daily with a consistent structure of Daily Review, Mental Arithmetic, Explicit Teaching, and Routine Practice activities with Working Mathematically skills embedded throughout. The topics taught in Term 2 are: Multiplicative Relations, Data, Representing numbers and Fractions. Mathematics lessons will be differentiated to meet the learning needs of all students. 

Science and Technology

During Term 2, students will continue exploring the Earth’s place in the solar system. Looking at the changes on the earth's surface caused by natural disasters and the exploration of how these may be mitigated. It will further develop students’ understanding of the Earth, its position in the solar system and as a dynamic part of a complex, interrelated system.

Geography

Students will continue to explore countries of the Asia region and the connections Australia has with other countries across the world. Students learn about the diversity of the world’s people, including the indigenous peoples of other countries. Similarities, differences and the importance of intercultural understanding will also be explored. The Travel Expo will take place in Week 7, more details to be shared closer to the Travel Expo Celebration Day.

Personal Development, Health and Physical Education

The sport unit focuses on developing athletics and Oz Tag skills in a fun, team-oriented environment. Students will refine running, jumping, and throwing techniques through engaging athletic activities to prepare them for the upcoming Athletics Carnival.They will also build key Oz Tag skills, such as passing, tagging, and spatial awareness, which prepare them for the Shark Tag interschool sports day. The unit promotes teamwork, resilience, and problem-solving, building confidence, and fostering lifelong engagement in sport and movement.

Monday, 15 December - Year 6 Fun Day at Jamberoo - We will require parent helpers on this day. If you are able to assist and have your WWCC, please email info@olfcaringbah.catholic.edu.au directing your email to Melissa Hunter. Unfortunately due to duty of care, we ask that parent helpers do not bring siblings. 

Amadeus

Students will continue with the Amadeus Music Education Program and participate in activities in listening, performing and organising sound within their regular Classroom Music lessons. 

  • It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that they:

    • Arrive on time for each lesson

    • Bring their instrument and required accessories to every lesson

    • Bring their Essential Elements* music book

    • Bring a lead pencil and eraser

Creative Arts

ART

This term, Year 6 students will engage in a dynamic visual arts program that encourages creativity and understanding of other cultures.

They will explore Portraiture through self expression and the study of notable artists, developing their skills in drawing and composition. 

In celebration of Naidoc week, students will delve into Indigenous Australian art, learning about traditional techniques, symbols and stories to deepen their appreciation of Indigenous cultures. 

A core component of the term will include a focus on the Elements and Principles of Design, where students will investigate concepts and apply them across different projects- (Cultural Masks)

Art lessons every fortnight will be taught by Mrs Brown.

 

DRAMA

In Drama with Mr Parlato, students will learn lines, rehearse dramatic scenes, create character profiles, and costumes  to perform a play. Students will be asked to practically demonstrate their understanding of the elements of drama through their collaborative work and their performance. 

Homework 

This week students received their new homework for Term 2. The homework slides clearly outline the tasks that students are expected to complete each week. The students have been made aware of the expectations around the presentation and delivery of their homework. Homework is due each Monday. If your child is unable to complete their homework, please communicate this to their classroom teacher. 

 

Your child's homework will be uploaded each Monday on their Google Classroom.

It is an expectation that your child is bringing their diary with them to school every day. The diary is a means of communication between home and school, a record of their nightly reading and a useful tool to remind them of important dates. 

 At home, you can assist your child by:

  • Assisting them in proofreading their homework;
  • Promoting neat and careful presentation of work;
  • Correcting their oral language when needed;
  • Assisting them to broaden their vocabulary and
  • Comprehension skills through discussing current affairs;
  • Encouraging reading for enjoyment every day.
  • Encouraging the development of their SMART goals

Please ensure your child has suitable reading material to bring to school for silent reading.

SPBL Positive Behaviour Expectations 

In line with the school's SPBL policy, students are encouraged to work towards making positive choices that enable them to be safe, respectful and responsible learners. Students will need to demonstrate consistent appropriate behaviour choices in order to attend and participate in extracurricular opportunities such as school rewards days, off-site activities, gala days, inter-school sports and excursions.
