Grade Bulletin - Term Two, 2025
Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Primary School provides a range of holistic learning experiences to enable students to:
In Religious Education, students will engage in the topics of Easter and Baptism.
1.3 The Easter Season: The Unit ‘The Easter Season’ develops the students’ familiarity with the Easter story. It also introduces the stories of the Ascension and Pentecost. Through these stories, children continue to engage with the mystery of God’s abiding presence.
1.1 Baptism: The Unit ‘Baptism’ presents Mark’s account of ‘Jesus and the Children’ (Mark 10:13-16). Through this story children can experience Jesus as one who welcomes, loves and includes them. In this story children are valued. They are people who enjoy a relationship with Jesus and the kingdom.
The unit introduces Baptism as the sacrament of initiation into the Church community. The emphasis here is on sharing in the new life of Christ. The unit presents the key symbols and actions used in the Rite of Baptism.
The students will experience opportunities to engage with various quality texts throughout the term, including ‘Mr Huff’, ‘My Many Coloured Days’, ‘Florette’, ‘Eric Carle’s book of amazing animals’ and digital texts derived from ‘National Geographic Kids.’ Students will use these texts to explore the textual concepts of Imagery, Symbol, Connotation, Representation, Narrative and Character.
Students will continue to display and develop their knowledge and understanding in the areas of:
Handwriting - The students will continue to work on their pencil grip, correct letter formation and writing within the lines.
In Mathematics, students will be working through the early part of the Stage One outcomes and each lesson is differentiated to cater for the variety of abilities in the classroom. Mathematics lessons occur daily for 60 minutes. The topics taught this term are:
During Term 2, students will be studying the unit 'Fantastic Forces'. In this unit, students will identify light, sound and heat energy while exploring how they are sensed and produced. The unit begins with students investigating how their senses help them interpret and interact with the world. Through hands-on, sensory-based investigations, they learn to observe and describe their surroundings using sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell. Students explore sources of light and sound, as well as the effects of heat, through collaborative activities and investigations. Throughout the unit, they are encouraged and supported to observe, predict and communicate their findings, demonstrating their ability to work scientifically.
This term, we are continuing to learn about features of places. The students will identify and describe the different weather that occurs and how this affects everyday life. Students explore activities occurring in places and how spaces within these places can be used for different purposes.
During sport, there will be a focus on developing fundamental movement skills through athletics and invasion games. Students will refine their abilities in running, jumping and throwing while building coordination and teamwork. Through activities such as soccer, netball and hockey, students will develop spatial awareness, cooperation, and problem-solving skills in dynamic team settings. The unit encourages physical activity, resilience, and enjoyment, fostering lifelong participation in sport and movement.
Students will also participate in activities organised by the Year 9 PASS students from De La Salle. The De La Salle students will instruct our students on many aspects of the Physical Education Curriculum with a focus on fundamental movement skills and games. The program starts in Week 3 and will culminate in a Fun and Fitness day. Supervision is provided by all three classroom teachers and the De La sports teachers. The program will take place on De La Salle playground or the Caringbah Oval.
During Health lessons we will continue the Open Parachute program. This program aims to provide practical support for students' mental health. The program aims to reduce stigma and generate authentic dialogue in classrooms about the real issues students face. The psychological skills-building exercises aim to increase empathy, self-compassion, self-awareness, mental health literacy, and self-efficacy in students.
In Drama with Mr Parlato, students will use Margaret Wilds 'There’s a Sea in My Bedroom' to engage in dramatic activities. Students will create dramatic scenes using mime, movement, body language, facial expression, vocal projection and expression. Students will use 'There’s a Sea in My Bedroom' to create scripts and perform an undersea play.
In Visual Arts , students are continuing to focus on the elements of Art and using different materials to create artworks with a range of mediums, including pencil, oil pastel and watercolours. Students are creating artworks that link with the curriculum areas of English, Geography, Science and Technology and Religious Education.
At Our Lady of Fatima Caringbah, we acknowledge that the time children spend with their families and their involvement in extracurricular activities are important components in the development of the whole child. Homework brings children's school experience into the home, allowing families to understand their progress and engage more closely with the curriculum.
Homework will start for students from Thursday in Week One. This Term we will continue our focus with reading on a nightly basis, review of spelling words that are taught from our Spelling Program 'Decodable Readers Australia' and ‘Tricky Words’. Parents are asked to sign their child's Reading Log and return it to school each Thursday. Homework books will be sent home each Friday and returned every Thursday for marking.
We look forward to working with you and your child this term. A gentle reminder that all emails are to be sent through info@olfcaringbah.catholic.edu.au. If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher via a note or by making an appointment via the office.
