Yr 9 RAID Program

Year 9
On Wednesday the 5th of February, the Year 9s enjoyed their first RAID Day. The theme was ‘Building Relationships’ and the activities centred around teamwork. Activities included, African Drumming, RAID values challenge, Minute to-win-it, Dance workshop, a QR code scavenger hunt as well as a Science Presentation called ‘Tick-Tick Boom’.
RAID is an opportunity for students to live up to the school values, of Respect, Achievement, Innovation and Diversity. Our next RAID session will occur on 19th February, the theme of the Day is ‘Building Independence’. Student’s will be participating in various activities around the town as well as back at school.
Year 9 Parents who were unable to attend the RAID information session on Monday 3rd of February, can view the video version of the presentation here: youtube.com/watch?v=cQF-be6xckc
Our second RAID Day was held on the 19th February. The theme of the day was ‘building independence’, with students moving between a range of on-site and offsite activities. Students enjoyed a photo scavenger hunt in town, golf lessons & roo tours at the Gisborne Golf Course, a rocket building and launching session and African drumming for the groups who didn’t get do it last RAID Day.
Overall, the students were responsible and respectful, and we had wonderful feedback from the Golf Course about their behaviour. Next RAID session we will be focusing on ‘looking after our environment’ and students will enjoy sessions from Wild Action Zoo, Macedon Ranges Shire & Clean up Australia Day. In this session, we will also run a ‘City preparation’ session to help put the student’s minds at ease about our first city experience.
Student reflections:
"I demonstrated respect when listening to my peers, teachers and visitors. I showed Achievement in the African drumming when I was able to play the rhythm, and I showed Innovation when I helped to design a rocket with my group."
- Lola C
"I showed respect to the driver of the roo tour by staying quiet and asking questions when necessary. I showed achievement by learning how to play golf properly. I showed innovation while building a rocket and creating a design for my rocket. And I showed diversity by taking a hard path and finding my way through the scavenger hunt easily."
- Kaylahn S
"I demonstrated respect by being respectful to the public in Gisborne. I demonstrated achievement by successfully playing the African Drums. I demonstrated innovation by trying a new fin design on my bottle rocket, and I demonstrated diversity by trying a more diverse cuisine, as rather than just going Mcdonalds with the rest of the class, I got sushi." - Alex E
A huge thank you to our Year 9 parents for ensuring that students are wearing the correct uniforms.
