JUNIOR School Update

A very warm welcome to the 2025 school year to all new and returning families!
The term has been an especially busy one for our Year 7 students who are learning more about our school every day. At our first day assembly, we spoke about our updated vision and values. Our values – respect, responsibility, resilience and empathy – manifest in behaviours that we strive to teach, role model and celebrate every day – and it is especially pleasing to see so many of our Year 7 students being recognised by staff with house points for demonstrating these in their first ten days. By living our values, we share responsibility to uphold and strengthen what we have labelled our Frankston High School ‘pillars’ – excellence, community and aspiration – as trademarks of the school that has built a reputation within and beyond the Frankston community for over a century. Our newest cohort has already demonstrated that they are more than capable of contributing to a really positive school culture, and we are excited to see this continue throughout the year!
Our Year 7 students are in great hands in 2025 with our caring teachers, dedicated support staff and the leadership of Ms Samantha Cody (Head of Year 7) and our Year Level Coordinators Ms Catherine Kyriakos and Ms Natalie D’Ambra. The Junior School team is ably supported by Ms Sharee Dew (Education Support). Please get in touch with teachers throughout each semester if you have any questions or concerns about your child’s progress in a particular subject. For more ongoing or general matters related to your child’s overall wellbeing, learning or engagement at school, please contact the Year 7 team.
Our Years 7 to 10 students complete Common Assessment Tasks (CATs) for each subject, and our teachers provide feedback about these on an ongoing basis throughout the semester via the Learning Tasks module on Compass. We encourage you to check Compass regularly as a way to stay informed about your child’s progress, and to assist them in preparing for or reflecting upon assessments using the information available. Our Year 7 students will also complete NAPLAN from Wednesday 12 March. More details will follow closer to the date.
There is no shortage of opportunities at Frankston High School. In the next few weeks, we have production auditions for our 2025 show Chicago, Swimming Sports (Tuesday 18 February), Semper Squad, Music Information Night (Tuesday 4 March) and so much more. We encourage all of our Year 7 students to get involved wherever possible! A key event in the Year 7 calendar is the annual Orientation Camp, which will be held at Lord Somers Camp in the week commencing Monday 24 February, with students attending in two groups. Please see Compass for further information including the dates your child’s class will be attending. Payment and consent is due by Friday 14 February and families are asked to contact the school before this date if any assistance is required.

Welcome back to all our students and families.
It’s been a busy start to 2025 and it was fantastic to welcome back our Year 8 cohort with our first assembly of the year on Thursday 30 January. A big thank you to Mr Joel Mcmahon (Head of Year 8) for all his work in preparing for this assembly. Also, to our Year Level Coordinators, Ms Paige Whitworth and Mr Gareth Fuller for their contributions, and to the staff in attendance for their support. This assembly provided a fantastic opportunity to speak to our pillars of excellence, community and aspiration while also reminding our students about the importance of our values respect, responsibility, resilience, and empathy.
I’m really looking forward to working with our Year 8 Team, led by Mr Joel Mcmahon this year and our team of teachers. Their dedication, care, support and work ethic in supporting students learning, well-being and engagement is incredible. Please make sure you contact your child’s teachers throughout the year if you have any questions regarding their progress within their specific subjects. Our Year 8 team is always available to support with any concerns that may arise so please don’t hesitate to get in contact where required.
Our Year 8 students have made a positive start to classes in 2025 and it’s been so fantastic to see many of them demonstrating our school’s values both in and out of the classroom. Term 1 is a busy one, with so many opportunities for them to get involved in our school community. We encourage them to make the most of the amazing opportunities that Frankston High School offers them.
We look forward to a fantastic year with our Year 8 students as we challenge and support them to achieve their full potential.
