Old Orchard Primary School presents Shrek the Musical JR.
19th and 20th of August 2025, at Karralyka Theatre, Ringwood
About Shrek The Musical Jr:
Beauty is in the eye of the ogre in Shrek The Musical JR., based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film and fantastic Broadway musical. It's a "big bright beautiful world" as everyone's favorite ogre, Shrek, leads a cast of fairytale misfits on an adventure to rescue a princess and find true acceptance. Part romance and part twisted fairy tale, Shrek JR. is an irreverently fun show with a powerful message for the whole family.
Once upon a time, in a far away swamp, there lived an ogre named Shrek. One day, Shrek finds his swamp invaded by banished fairytale misfits who have been cast off by Lord Farquaad, a tiny terror with big ambitions. When Shrek sets off with a wisecracking donkey to confront Farquaad, he's handed a task – if he rescues feisty princess Fiona, his swamp will be righted. Shrek tries to win Fiona’s love and vanquish Lord Farquaad, but a fairytale wouldn't be complete without a few twists and turns along the way.
Who is performing?
This year, the production will include students in years 3-6. Students in Kimba and Korra will be performing on Night 1 and Wulun and Yindi students on night 2.
Help needed!
Our school needs parent helpers for help with costumes. We are also looking for help on both nights for makeup/face paint application.
If you have any queries about the production or can offer assistance, please email Rhiannon: Rhiannon.Trimby@education.vic.gov.au
Our School Therapy Dog, Ginger
Ginger has continued to complete her classroom visits and is learning how to check-in with students working at their desks. Students have done an excellent job of patting Ginger when they're invited to, and working at their tables even when a cute distraction enters the room! So far this term, Ginger has also helped students calm down and regulate their emotions during challenges.
Prep Writing
This week the Preps were busy learning how to unpack their first 'seed' for their Writer's Notebook (an integral part of our Writer's Workshop). Using a picture from this week's mentor text "My Magical Choices", students drew what they could see in the picture, and some even had a go at writing the beginning sounds for each item.
Year 6 Art Project
Each year our Year 6 students complete an art project which is permanently displayed in the school as a farewell gift from our graduating class. Pip has been busy installing the 2024 Year 6 Art Project in our newly refurbished library and we think it looks amazing!
