How We Express Ourselves

Year 2 - Term 1   2025

Transdisciplinary Theme

'How we express ourselves'

Central Idea

Communication is influenced by feelings and emotions

As an International Baccalaureate world school, authorised to teach the Primary Year’s Programme, we explore six transdisciplinary themes each year.

The first unit the Year Two students will explore focuses on the various ways we communicate and express our ideas and emotions.

‘How we express ourselves’ works in partnership with and is complemented by ‘The Zones of Regulation’, which Year 2 students will be referring to throughout the year. Throughout this unit Year 2 students will explore emotional literacy, personal strengths and positive coping strategies.

‘How we express ourselves’ will help students to identify positive mental health strategies to build resilience and happiness.

Action

Action in the PYP is initiated independently by the student as a result of the learning process. Action may be bringing a book or artefact related to the inquiry to school, or student initiated drawings/posters/research.

We celebrate our students’ ACTION every day in our classrooms. If you see your children taking independent action at home encourage them to share their action with their class.
