Physical Education

Hi Families,

Another huge couple of weeks of sport and PE over the past few weeks and our final House Sports for the year to look forward to this week.

Dates for the calendar:

Twilight Sports - Thursday 6th November

State Volleyball Finals - Friday 21st November

Division/EMR Finals

Over the past two weeks many of our 6 and some 5 students have been privileged to progress to Division and Regional finals in tennis, volleyball and cricket.  Here are some insights from the events as told by the students:

On the 28th of October a group of 9 girls in Year 6 went to the Nets to play Regional volleyball. It was a fun day and we made it to the Grand Final. We played a tight game with the score of 15 - 20 in the second set but sadly lost. We were super excited and proud that we came 2nd in the whole region. And even though we were a bit sad we didn’t get into state, we  we were optimistic and proud of ourselves. Then to our surprise 2 days later we found out that one of the teams dropped out and we get to go to state!! We all were super excited and and can’t wait to play volleyball at the State Finals on Friday November 21st!!😄🏐 - By Adele and Elsie

On October 31st, the mix team of nine Year Sixes competed in division cricket. It was a very wet day that wasn’t perfect cricket conditions but we battled through. We won our first game and had two close battles. We finished in 3rd place. We hit lots of boundaries and took lots of wickets. Even in the rain we caught well. We have appreciated all of the sport this year. Thank you Mrs Wall. - By Ben and Amelia

Our Year 5/6 team had an amazing time at the Division Tennis day. The sun was shining and it was the perfect day for some quality forehands and backhands. Everyone gave their best effort and played with great teamwork and energy. We encouraged each other, stayed positive, and showed what it means to represent St James with pride.

We began by competing against last year’s state champions, but no one gave up. We kept trying our best, stayed focused, and worked together all the way to the end. We won the final match. A special mention to Ayta who won all of his singles matches. We were so proud of what we achieved and happy to finish our last chance to represent St James in such a fun and exciting way. - Year 5/6 Tennis Team

2026 Planning

Planning for the 2026 calendar is well and truly underway and I will add more dates before the end of term.  First District event will be Swimming.  We will have swimming trials on Wednesday 11th February.  If your child will be year 3 next year and will turn 9 by the end of 2026 and can safely swim 50m, then they are welcome to come to our trials morning for the District team.  More information and to sign up for the day can be found at this link here

Basketball Tops

Please, if you haven't already, have your students return their washed basketball tops to the PE office this week to ensure we have full sets for next year.

Twilight Sports - Thursday 6th November

Our Twilight Sports event is this Thursday from 4pm until 7pm.  All students can arrive from 3.45pm ready for an official start at 4pm.  Students are encouraged to wear their house colours for the evening.  Students will have the opportunity to receive ribbons on the evening as part of team events.  If you could bring a pin for your student to pin these to their tops, this would be ideal.

The rotation events will be run by our year 6 students with the assistance of teachers walking around with their classes.  Parents are encouraged to watch their children at the various events but please ensure you are behind or to the side of these events so these events can run smoothly.

There will be a break between rotations so that the year 6 can run some of their events.  The remainder of the school will sit at their house flags to cheer on their teams during this time.  Parents during this time will be asked to sit back in the stands.

Below you will find an outline of how the program is planned to run on.  All are approximate times.  The event will conclude by 7pm (as there is a scheduled event booked from then also).  We are looking forward to an afternoon of fun and great house spirit.
