Yarn With a Cop
This term, we have commenced a relationship with the Victoria Police’s Youth Division. Their team’s aim is to develop strong relationships between young people and the police in the community, so that young people know they can reach out to police if they need support. To begin with, each of our boarding houses will be visited by Alex and Tia from the Youth Division, and Aunty Eva Jo, an Aboriginal Liaison Officer.
The team will visit each boarding house once a term to answer any questions any of the students have about staying safe in Melbourne and deliver some educational presentations in our school program about staying safe online.
We kicked off the ‘Yarn With A Cop’ series at Lockington, our Year 7 Boarding House, where the kids had plenty of questions for the team about what it takes to get into the Police Force, what their different roles were and what the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander representation was like in the Victorian Police Force (only 0.007% at the moment!!).
Next time they visit, the kids have asked if they can try out the fitness test required to make it into the Force!
