Pathways School Update

Pathway News
Year 8 Transition
Year 8 students are back at their respective pathways school undertaking transition visits. Christello, Jermaine, Marius, Evan and Anthony recently received their De La Salle College uniforms and are absolutely rocking them! The boys were so proud of their new uniform that they put them straight on. Harry is also looking sharp in his Scotch College uniform!
Transitioning to a new school is both exciting and challenging as it often means navigating unfamiliar spaces while staying connected to culture, and identity. Through the diligent work undertaken by Edwina our Student Transition Manager, the school team, and support from of Pathways Schools staff the transition is made easier, and the recognition of students' culture is supported and strengthened. There is more information regarding transition in the school section of this newsletter.
Sheronica – Media Studies at Firbank
In Term 3, Sheronica partnered with Catherine Freeman to complete a Media Studies project at school. Here is the letter she wrote to Catherine asking for her support.
What a fantastic example of Sheronica’s courage to reach out, and of Catherine’s generous response and participation.
Cathy, I come to you with a big wish. I would be so honored if you would join me to make a video about the Firbank mural. With you in it, the video will have more meaning. We can show the beauty of the mural and tell important stories behind it.
Last year we painted the mural at Turner House with the MITS mob and some Year 4s did some too. We designed it to tell our stories and about our countries and our connections.
This video not just for fun. It is to connect community, to understand better what the mural says. Your voice and your experience can inspire many people, make them feel proud of our culture and art.
Cathy, you have a journey that is amazing. Your story can encourage others. I really believe that if we work together, we can create something wonderful and memorable for everyone.
I am hoping we could meet and talk about the mural on film. I am making a film for my Media Studies about how we made the mural and what it means to me. Will you join me in this project?
I want to come together to celebrate our culture, our history, and the strength that unites us.
Work Experience - Jamelia Ashley (Year 10 at Kingswood College) - work experience at Royal Women’s Hospital
Jamelia recently completed an amazing week of work experience at Royal Women's Hospital in Melbourne. Hosted by Teagan Malcolm, Aboriginal Workforce Consultant, and Ruby Tribe and her team at Badjurr Bulok Wilam ‘Home of Many Women’ in Woiwurrung language, her experiences included Pregnancy Daycare, Physiotherapy, Neonatal Intensive Care, Social Work, and Patient Experience.
On her final day, she presented her findings to a multidisciplinary team consisting of workforce specialists, midwives, nurses, support and social workers. Jamelia’s presentation enabled staff to learn more about where she is from, and addressed following four categories, three things she learned; three things she liked; three challenging things; and three things she would change. A photo of one of the slides is included for your viewing.
Jamelia is inspired to pursue a healthcare pathway in the future and would like to thank the entire team at the Royal Women’s Hospital, and the staff at Kingswood College for this opportunity.
