Learning and Teaching

Learning Space 1 Juniors
In Learning Space 1, the Juniors have been learning about Poetry during Writing. The Preps have been working on Rhyming words and have been reading a range of Nursery Rhymes to help them identify rhyming words. Clinic 2’s have been learning how to write Acrostic poems and have been focussing on using the letters of a particular word to write a sentence. Clinic 3’s have been working hard on rhyming words and have been very creative in writing their own Rhyming Poems! They followed the AABB pattern when composing their poems and will present their wonderful Rhyming poems to the class.
In Maths, Clinic 2 have been working hard on dividing different quantities into equal groups. They have been doing this using concrete materials and then recording their answers using drawings. They have been investigating which numbers divide evenly and what is done when there is an unequal amount and some left over. Lots of great discussion and exploring has take place by these mathematicians!
In R.E, all students have been learning about the story of The Good Samaritan and have been learning that just like the Good Samaritan, they too can do acts of kindness for one another. The Juniors first learnt the story and role played it in groups. They then applied the story to their lives and thought of all the wonderful ways they can be a Good Samaritan in their homes and at school.

Celebrating Our Differences: Human Dignity and Diversity
This term, our school’s Inquiry unit has focused on a powerful concept ‘Human Dignity and Diversity’. We have been exploring the big question: “How can we be one while being different and still uphold human dignity?”
Through our Religious Education lessons, we’ve been learning that even though each of us is unique, we are all created in the image and likeness of God. This means that every person has special worth and should be treated with respect, kindness, and love. Just as we would want to be treated ourselves.
To help us understand this, we revisited the Creation Story (Genesis 1–2). We noticed how each day of creation added something new, light, land, animals, plants, and people, all different, yet all needed to make the world complete. Just like creation, our differences make the world more beautiful and balanced. If even one part were missing, it wouldn’t be the same.

BIKE EDUCATION - Week 7 – Sesssion 2
The fifth graders are becoming familiar with the following aspects:
1. Reviewing the safety protocols from session 1 to ensure that the students understand the essential components.
2. Attending to the instructions provided, such as when to accelerate and when to decelerate, while remaining mindful of the cyclists ahead and behind them.
3. Being vigilant about pedestrians while riding, signalling their presence to those on foot, and maintaining awareness of their environment.
The students are gaining an understanding of what to anticipate while cycling, recognizing the significance of safety. It is crucial for them to attentively follow instructions to ensure that everyone can enjoy the experience. Bike education serves as a means to instil in the students the importance of prioritizing safety above all else.
NOTE
No Bike Education during Week 7, it will recommence Week 8.

SFS AFTER SCHOOL WOOLWORTHIS CRICKET BLAST PROGRAM
We would like to thank Peter and Cricket Australia as well as Woolworths for providing our students with the opportunity to attend afterschool cricket clinics this term. It was a great opportunity for our students and it was great to see so many students participating in the clinics.
SWIMMING WEEK 7
Swimming continues!! Thanks to all the parents who ensure that their child is prepared for their swimming lesson each week. It makes the office ladies job much easier. Thank you also to parents who assist in the Junior changerooms. Please remember that only the parents I have organised will be allowed to enter and assist in the changerooms.
Swimming next week is the normal sessions on Monday or Tuesday but then there is also a water safety lesson for each group on either Thursday or Friday. Please see swimming details below:
SWIMMING LESSONS
Monday – LS1 Seniors, LS1 Juniors, LS3 Juniors
Tuesday – LS3 Seniors, LS2 Seniors, LS2 Juniors
WATER SAFETY LESSONS
Thursday – LS1 Seniors, LS1 Juniors, LS2 Juniors
Friday – LS3 Seniors, LS2 Seniors, LS3 Juniors
Students will need to wear their bathers under their sports or regular uniform, whichever is easier for them to change in and out of, and bring a bag with their towel, undergarments and thongs. Students will put their thongs on before leaving for swimming to make changing easier. They will then put their shoes back on once they return to school. Parents please note nothing extra is required for the safety lessons on Thursday and Friday.
Please ensure your child is prepared for their swimming lesson so our office staff do not need to use their valuable time ringing parents and asking them to bring swimming gear.
Parents please note you are welcome to attend Casey Leisure to view your child’s lesson but photographs and videos are not allowed and only parents who have been contacted by me, are able to assist in the junior change rooms.
A reminder to parents that swimming is an important part of the PE curriculum and all students are expected to attend. It’s imperative that students know how to keep themselves safe around water. If there is a medical reason your child cannot attend a session, they will then remain at school in another Learning Space.
