Year 4 Camp
Early on Monday morning, Year 4 students were waved off to camp at Alexandra. Students were excited to head off on their adventure. The camp supports students to develop independence, resilience and teamwork. For some, this may be the first time they've been away from home, for others it tests their reslience as they spend each day participating in some pretty challenging adventures. For all, it supports them to learn to get along with others and develop old and new friendships. This year, was Mr King's turn to visit along with the year 4 teaching team. Look how brave he was...
During their camp, students get to experience many different challenges such as:
- High Swing
- Flying Fox over the lake
- Archery
- Climbing Wall
- High Ropes
- Gaga Pit
- Problem Solving Challenges
I'm sure when they return to school on Wednesday afternoon they will be exhausted but will have had a thoroughly enjoyable time.
Camp Reflections
This morning year 4 students created posters of their reflections of their first IPS camp experience.
Victoria Fighting Extinction Schools Showcase
Anthony in 3O has been participating in the Zoo's Victoria Fighting Extinction Schools project.
Alphington Grammar School, Year 10 student, Esme Johnson, started a project last year to rehabilitate a patch on the edge of the school boundary along the Darebin Creek. It was overgrown with weeds. Through collecting 10c can money for possum and sugar-glider boxes, and some tubestock; as well as volunteering in exchange for tubestock of indigenous plants specific to our local area, the project began and was awarded a Junior Landcare grant which allowed them to purchase some basic equipment and more than $3000 dollars worth of indigenous plants.
Ant has been working on this project as his way of giving back to his community. He understands the importance of keeping on working as the weeds keep growing... it has been over a year now. Last month he, and another boy also not currently at AGS, decided to weed the section of the cycle path adjacent to the boundary fence too.
Foundation Fire Fighters Visit
On Wednesday, the Foundation students had their first visit with the Firefighters from Fire Rescue Victoria. They had an informative session about good and bad fires, what an emergency is, what to do if there is smoke and smoke detectors.
Students were given a homework task that asked parents to discuss and identify their own family’s safe meeting place. Also students were asked to check their own home smoke detectors that night!
