Careers and Pathways

The end of the year is in sight! Term 4 in Careers & Pathways is all about preparing for 2026, especially for our graduating class of 2025 and they take their first steps into the world post-secondary studies. For our remaining cohorts, there are still great Careers & Pathways events running in Term 4.

ADF Puckapunyal Base Career Expo

Earlier this term, a number of students from Years 9 to 12 had the opportunity to attend the Puckapunyal ADF base for their biannual Careers Expo. Students were able to speak to currently enlisted ADF members and discuss their experiences and lifestyle as well as explore the multitude of career opportunities and pathways available through the ADF. Students were also able to get an up-close look at a range of ADF vehicles and artillery, take part in Personal Training sessions and, for a lucky few, take a ride in an Army Vehicle or 2.

Year 9 Real Industry Job Interviews

All Year 9 students were given the opportunity to participate in the Real Industry Job Interviews (Mock Interview) event on Tuesday 21st October. This event is hosted annually by the Hume Whittlesea Local Learning and Employment Network and involves dozens of community and industry volunteers, including Victoria Police and Headstart, who act as the ‘employers’ in these mock interviewers.

In the weeks leading up, students worked on their resumes and cover letters which they submitted for their RIJI, those who had completed their applications were given an interview slot.

Feedback from both students and volunteers were exceptional and gave students the opportunity to practice their interviewing and application skills in preparation for work experience next year and any part time job opportunities they may be interested in applying for.

Swinburne University Day Excursion

On Thursday 6th November our Year 10 students were invited to attend an excursion to Swinburne University to get a hands-on, real-world experience of their campus, courses and facilities. While all tertiary providers are unique, there are also many elements that they all share, allowing our students to not only get a feel for Swinburne, but tertiary institutions and higher education in general.

Students attended a university presentation before breaking off into workshops. Students were given the opportunity to pick between:

  • Engineering / Science Workshop - Dive into the world of biomechanics, where medical engineering and bionics intersect. Discover how engineers combine mechanical and electrical solutions to address medical challenges.
  • Law / Criminal Justice and Criminology Workshop - Step into the role of a legal professional in a courtroom setting. Collaborate with law students and academics to use real-life cases and argue for either the complainant or the defendant.
  • Design Workshop - Ever wondered what makes a product stand out? Learn insider tips from expert designers, then put your creativity to the test by designing and pitching your own innovative product.
  • Media & Communications Workshop - Do you have the next big social media idea? Work alongside Swinburne Academics to brainstorm and create a brand-new platform, from concept to pitch.
