Prep/1 Classroom News

End of the Year!!

Thank you to our wonderful students and families for a fantastic year of learning and fun in Prep/1. It has been a pleasure to watch the children grow in confidence, independence and curiosity as learners. Your ongoing support at home has played an important role in their success, and I appreciate the strong partnership between school and families.  I wish everyone a safe, happy and relaxing holiday and look forward to seeing the students continue to thrive in the year ahead.

English

Sounds Write:

What a year of growth for our Prep students! From learning to write 'mat' to writing a whole lot of CCVC (consonant/consonant/vowel/consonant) words like 'brand, trust, shrink, slept'! You have come a long way! Students are now writing and reading sentences independently and are very proud of themselves!

Sentence Buddies:

We have been learning about sentences. Every sentence has a 'who' (noun) and a 'do' (verb), a capital letter and punctuation. We made 'Sentence Buddies'. We read our sentences as statements, commands, exclamations or questions.

The Gingerbread  man:

We have spent a couple of weeks focusing on the text 'The Gingerbread Man'. We have read a few different versions, talked about characters, settings and events and drawn story maps. We compared the story to 'The Runaway Pizza' and talked about the similarities and diffferences.  We also wrote our own procedures for 'How to catch the gingerbread man!'

Geography

In our Geography topic this term students explored how their local environments change over time and how they can help take care of these places. They investigated the different features of our community, including natural, managed and constructed elements.

Students drew maps of our school and designed their own water park with a variety of features.
