Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) Progress

Koonung Secondary College is proud to share the significant progress made in our journey toward reconciliation. In 2025, the RAP Committee developed a comprehensive Reconciliation Action Plan featuring seventeen meaningful actions to strengthen understanding, respect, and inclusion of First Nations perspectives across our school.
We are pleased to report the successful completion of several key actions, including:
- Conducting a full curriculum audit to identify where First Nations perspectives are currently embedded and where further opportunities exist.
- Ensuring all staff completed Cultural Understanding and Safety Training (CUST).
- Hosting a powerful Welcome to Country delivered by a representative from the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation as the opening to our 2025 Koonung Day celebrations.
- Celebrating National Reconciliation Week by screening First Nations films and TV programs each lunchtime.
- Promoting reconciliation through regular updates in the school newsletter and on Compass.
- Began the process of updating the school’s acknowledgement of country
- Installing and displaying Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags in school meeting rooms.
- Offering students the opportunity to view a First Nations film in the library to celebrate NAIDOC week.
- Updated the school’s website to include our RAP progress so the community can follow along
- Celebrating National Reconciliation Week in the Equality Collective lunch time club by learning about the history and significance of the week.
Koonung Secondary College is committed to continuing this important work in 2026, building stronger connections, understanding, and respect within our school community.
