A note from Mr Jackson

Orientation Session 2
Wednesday 29 October
The second orientation for 2026 Preps and parents was held this week (Wednesday 29 October). It was a chance to explore a range of topics including; the workings of TheirCare, the canteen, as well as the makeup of uniforms. We spoke about FORPS and the Fair coming up, as well as the role of Disability Inclusion at Rosanna Primary School and opportunities for volunteering. Students participated in a range of activities to support the transition. It was great to see so many eager faces ready to take a significant step into primary education.
Ramps Open Up
Tuesday 28 October
Students were very excited that metal fencing was removed and the ramps outside the lower building were opened up this week.
Now that this ramp has been completed, the metal handrails have been ordered. Unfortunately, they will not arrive for a few weeks. Temporary timber railings have been installed to ensure the ramps are safe. Students have been learning in class about the appropriate use of these new zones in our yard. It has been great to see them enjoyed by everyone. After some concerns were raised about the rough nature of the timber rails, builders have sanded the railings to a smoother finish. We have put a 'hurry up' reminder to the builders who hope to have the permanent hand rail in around 10 November.
Sustainability Agents Celebrated
Thursday 30 October
Our 2025 Sustainability Representatives will deepen their understandings and connection to the environment as they head off today to an immersive, hands-on farm experience! Their learning experiences are designed specifically for emerging sustainability leaders. Participants dive deep into a dynamic curriculum that integrates soil science, food sovereignty, sustainable farming, and urban biodiversity. Through interactive activities like worm composting, native planting and engaging in pollinator identification games, students gain practical skills and a meaningful connection to sustainable practices. We are all looking to hear about how their experience shapes their understanding of the world around them.
World Teacher’s Day
Friday 31 November
Established by UNESCO in 1994, World Teacher’s Day is an opportunity for students and our whole community to celebrate the value that teachers bring to our world. Teachers play a pivotal role in providing quality education, shaping the future, and nurturing the potential of learners around the world. You’ll find them squatting on the floor with a band aid, shoulder to shoulder with students in front of a book or drumming on the end of a bucket! What people do not see is the hours of preparation and learning that teachers participate in. Today staff are participating in professional learning around the impact that autism has on students as they engage with literacy and another on how we can build relationships with other organisations working with students with intellectual disabilities.
Staff are required to be ready at a moments’ notice to deliver an autoinjector and support both the wellbeing and learning needs of a diverse range of students! The role of a teacher is complex. We are all grateful for the contribution of each teacher!
While we look forward to a special lunch with Rosanna Primary teachers hosted by students on Friday, I encourage parents to pause and take the opportunity to express your gratitude to a teacher this week and next.
Curriculum Day & Public Holiday Reminder
3 & 4 November
A reminder to our school community that there is no School on Monday. This is a Curriculum Day and provides staff with the opportunity to focus on the administrative tasks of reporting and assessment practices. As Tuesday 4 November is a public holiday, we look forward to regathering on Wednesday 5 November after an extended break. I hope its an opportunity to celebrate the value of each other in a busy world.
Living and Growing Program 3/4s and 5/6s Wednesday 5 November
This term, Rosanna Primary School will be partnering once again with Sex Education Australia (SEA) to deliver our Living and Growing Program for students. We offer this to students every second year. There will be three sessions at each year level for students in Years 3/4 and Years 5/6. These sessions provide students with accurate, age-appropriate information about puberty, personal safety, relationships and reproduction. The program will be facilitated by experienced SEA educators, using interactive and engaging materials to support students’ understanding and wellbeing. The program is respectful, inclusive and aligned with the Victorian Curriculum and the Health and Physical Education domain.
Parents in the 3/4 and 5/6 Learning areas are invited to attend a Parent Information Session held on Zoom on Wednesday 5 November 2025 at 6:00pm. This special one-hour information evening for parents and caregivers is available for those who want to feel more confident to have important conversations with their young people about growing up, change and reproduction. This online event also gives parents and carers the opportunity to hear about the classroom program before it begins, learn what exactly will be covered and how, and what won’t be talked about, and to ask any questions.
We appreciate your support in helping us provide accurate and sensitive health education that empowers our students to make safe and informed choices. Please don't hesitate to speak with the classroom teacher or Principal if you have any questions. Payment can be made via Qkr!
Empathy Day
Thursday 6 November
We are thrilled to have a previous student reach out from Thornbury Highschool and seek to collaborate in a unique project that has become known as ‘Empathy Day’. Henny is working with the Junior School Council to raise funds for Haven Home Safe Preston. This is a non school uniform day where students are encourage to wear something that expresses themselves! I’ll be wearing my binoculars and birding outfit! We are encouraging students to bring along a gold coin to contribute to this important charity. Each of the classes from Year 3 to Year 6 will explore the theme of empathy with a small group of students from the high school.
Viewbank Math Team Visit
Thursday 6 November
We are thrilled to have the members of the mathematics team from Viewbank Secondary visit Rosanna Primary and continue to extend a group of students already performing at a high level in their mathematical ability. While about 25 students will be lead through some rigorous maths experiences, a number of our staff will share in professional learning as they look to strengthen the connections between primary and secondary schools. This ongoing conversation between the schools will continue to enrich and enable students to shape the great mathematicians emerging within our school.
