Grade One

General: Grade 1 students have had a fantastic start to their final term of the year! They have returned with enthusiasm, reconnecting with their friends and confidently settling back into their classroom routines. A highlight of the term so far has been our Colour Run fundraiser, where students had an amazing time running, laughing, and getting splashed with colour in support of our school community. The Grade 1s are also busily practising their dance moves in preparation for the upcoming Dance Production, which features many popular songs that have been a hit with the students. It’s been a joyful and busy term, and we look forward to finishing the year strong with plenty more learning and fun ahead.

Mathematics: In Mathematics, students have been extending their understanding through open-ended and hands-on problem-solving tasks. We have continued to deepen our knowledge of place value and applied this understanding to other concepts such as sharing and grouping. Students have also revisited key skills to consolidate their learning and are showing greater confidence in explaining their thinking in different ways: through number sentences, drawings and practical materials. The Melbourne Cup celebrations provided an exciting context for exploring length, time duration and data collection in engaging and meaningful ways.

English: This term in English, students have been exploring the features of procedure writing. They have been building their writing stamina and creativity through the use of descriptive language and action verbs. Over the coming weeks, students will begin learning about letter writing, leading into some exciting Christmas-themed activities to celebrate the end of a wonderful year of learning.

Integrated Studies: This term in Integrated Studies, the Grade 1 students have been exploring the concept of challenge and perseverance through a range of creative, hands-on activities. They have enjoyed expressing themselves through dance, designing and testing marble runs, and taking part in a variety of STEM challenges. Throughout these experiences, students have learnt that making mistakes is an important part of learning and have been encouraged to step outside their comfort zones while still feeling safe and supported.
