GRADE 3-4 CAMP

There was an excited buzz on the bus as we drove to our school camp destination in Warrnambool. We arrived at Warra Gnan and soon learned its name came from the Gunditjmara language meaning “water hole on the Merri”. We also learned the camp rules and expectations.

We set off on a beach walk, taking in the awesome sights and smells of the Merri River and Stingray Bay, including Middle Island, where we saw quite a flock of fairy penguins. We walked onto the beach foreshore and ocean breakwater; we then wandered back to camp along the Lake Pertobe area.

After lunch, we sorted luggage into our designated rooms and then went back to enjoy sunshine at the beach with active games of cricket and beach volleyball. Next, we had great fun playing mini-golf, with a few talented, or maybe just lucky people, achieving hole-in-ones.

Mrs Carmody joined us for a yummy spaghetti bolognaise dinner before rounding off our first day by leading us with a series of very fun activities. Once, she left us to go home, we took our weary bodies off to bed for a well-earned rest.

Day two saw us preparing for kayaking. We only had to walk across the road to the Merri River. Everyone was able to manage reasonably well by the end of the session. Some took to the paddling technique like ‘ducks to water,’ others took a little longer to learn.

After morning tea, we went back to the river to enjoy some relaxing time fishing. Although some fish teased, people had bites, no one was able to catch a fish. Everyone enjoyed the change of pace.

Our delicious baked potato lunch re-energised us for our bike ride. Mitch put us through skills and drills before we set off along the rail trail. We then headed down to Lake Pertobe for an Amazing Race. Mrs Mooseek came after our chicken dinner to escort us to Flagstaff Hill for the amazing light show. We watched history come to life from the first Aboriginal people to the fearless whalers who almost drove our loved southern right whales to extinction; all for the overseas demand of fashion and trinkets. We watched and heard the stories of shipwrecks, including the Loch Ard, and its only two survivors, Eva and Tom.

PREP LATE STAY & YEAR 1/2 SLEEPOVER

In Term 4, Grades Prep, 1 and 2 had their sleepover at school. Preps stayed late at school, for games on the blue courts, a disco and delicious dinner of spaghetti bolognese. Grade 1s and 2s stayed the night. Students especially loved the disco and getting to spend time with their friends.
