KLA Feature - PDHPE

It has been another busy and engaging term in PDHPE, with our junior students actively participating in a range of theory and practical learning experiences. Throughout Term 2, students have explored important topics relating to health, wellbeing, relationships, identity and physical activity while developing valuable skills through practical lessons.

Here is a snapshot of what our students have been learning over the past nine weeks:

Year 7

In theory lessons, Year 7 students have been exploring the unit ‘Eat Well, Live Well’. Students have investigated the role of specific nutrients in the body, how nutrition can influence health and sporting performance, and the various factors that shape our food choices. A key focus has been developing students’ consumer knowledge and their ability to interpret nutrition information panels on food labels.

During practical lessons, students have been developing specialised movement and manipulative skills through a variety of ball games and activities, focusing on teamwork, coordination and skill development.

Year 8

Year 8 students have been studying ‘We Are All in This Together’, which focuses on building positive digital identities. Students have explored the importance of developing a digital brand and reputation that reflects their values and contributes positively to online communities.

In practical lessons, students have participated in ‘Move and Groove’, engaging in activities that encourage rhythmic, creative and expressive movement while developing confidence and body awareness.

Year 9

This term, Year 9 students have focused on ‘Respect Me, Respect You’, exploring the importance of respectful relationships and how positive interactions contribute to safe and supportive communities.

In practical lessons, some classes have completed their ‘Build a Game’ projects, showcasing creativity, collaboration and problem-solving skills. Other classes have commenced ‘Game On’, participating in a range of sports and activities while exploring different competition formats and strategies.

Year 10

Year 10 students commenced the theory unit ‘1 in 5… Mind Your Health’, which explores the idea that change is a normal part of life. Students are developing an understanding of resilience, coping strategies and the importance of maintaining a healthy sense of self and identity when navigating life’s challenges.

Alongside their theory work, Year 10 students have participated in a variety of practical activities that highlight the diverse nature of physical activity, from recreational pursuits to competitive sports and games.

It has been wonderful to see our students actively engage in their learning, develop new skills and continue to build their understanding of health and wellbeing throughout Term 2.

Year 9 & 10 PASS

This term, elective Physical Activity and Sport Studies (PASS) students have developed a range of essential skills and knowledge to prepare them for their upcoming 2-day/1-night PASS camp at Somerset Outdoor Learning Centre in Colo.

Students have focused on building their confidence and independence as campers by learning key skills required for a safe and successful outdoor experience. The knowledge gained throughout the term, including preparation, teamwork, problem-solving and practical camping skills, will support students in making the most of this exciting learning opportunity. We look forward to seeing these skills put into action during their camp experience.
