As we reach the conclusion of another incredibly busy and productive term, we want to thank our entire school community for their dedication, hard work and continuous support. Term 2 has been defined by deep learning, professional growth for our staff and fantastic extension opportunities for our students.
Student Reports & Parent-Teacher Conferences
Student reports were officially released on Thursday 25th June via Compass. We highly encourage all families to take some dedicated time to sit down and read through these reports together, celebrating your child's achievements and reflecting on their growth areas.
Looking ahead, bookings are open on Compass for our Parent-Teacher Conferences, which will be held during Weeks 1 and 2 of Term 3. These meetings are a vital opportunity to discuss your child’s academic progress, social-emotional development and to align our goals for the second half of the school year.
Additionally, for parents of students in Years 3 and 5, please note that NAPLAN results will be released in Term 3. For more information please refer to the recent Compass post by Sharon Lomas.
Deepening Our Teaching Practices: Number Fluency & Literacy
Our staff have been heavily engaged in high-impact professional learning this term to ensure we continue to deliver best-practice instruction:
Number Fluency Program: Our teachers participated in a comprehensive, whole-day Professional Learning session run by the creator of the Number Fluency Program herself, Dr. Ange Rogers. It is fantastic to see that all classrooms across the school are now officially underway with these daily 15-minute fluency sessions, building our students' mathematical automaticity and confidence.
Language Comprehension: We also continue to refine our literacy practices through our ongoing professional learning partnership with Narissa Leung from Oz Lit Teacher. This work focuses on The Comprehension Rethink, ensuring our reading instruction explicitly targets deep text understanding, vocabulary acquisition, and critical thinking across all year levels.
Student Excellence Program Updates
Our Year 5 and 6 students recently attended their highly anticipated excursion to KIOSC, where they completely immersed themselves in hands-on coding and robotics activities. The level of student engagement and problem-solving on display was truly impressive.
Meanwhile, our VHAP English group has successfully completed their extension program, which focused deeply on the mechanics and craft of Narratives. For families wanting to know more about how we identify and support our high-ability students, please see the detailed informational post shared by Sharon Lomas on Compass.
Kingswood Community Library Box Now Open!
We are thrilled about our new Kingswood Community Children's Library Box! Located on school grounds, this box is a wonderful way for families to share a love of reading by donating pre-loved children's books and discovering new stories.
To help launch it, Mr. Cox and several staff members have donated some of their favorite books, complete with personal messages inside explaining why they recommend them and we encourage our students to write similar notes inside their donations!
To ensure the library remains sustainable, we kindly ask families to follow a few simple guidelines: please ensure only children's books are placed inside, limit borrowing and donating to a maximum of one or two books at a time and remember that school library books should not be placed in this box. Happy reading!
We wish all of our families a safe, restful, and happy winter school holiday. We look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed for Term 3!
