Rector's Report

Greetings to you all!
As you are aware this is the final newsletter for Term 2. It has been a busy term with many events and achievements especially in the sports area. Retreats and reflection days, examines and the GAT were completed, the rehearsals for our production of Beauty and the Beast are gaining more momentum as the dates quickly approach, The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge has again been successful, and our chess players continue their winning way.
In the Social Justice area our 2026 Mazenod Winter Appeal is still seeking donations from families to help those in need. Donations of essential items can be made until July 31 through the College with the details on our MazCom site to being dignity and hope to our brothers and sisters who are doing it tough.
I pray for a safe and enjoyable break for all.
Gospel Reflection
In connection with the Mazenod Winter Appeal and all our Social Justice efforts, this weekend’s Gospel highlights the importance of hospitality in the Christian life. To welcome another in Jesus’ name is to extend hospitality to Jesus himself. Our college takes great pride in responding to the many opportunities in our daily life to reach out to others, to be a welcoming presence and a sign of God’s love for others as we live the reality of the charism of St Eugene de Mazenod who it is said had a “Heart as big as the world’ as he, with his fellow Oblates, responded to the needs of the vulnerable.
Junior Youth Group
Mazenod Junior Youth Group currently mets on a Thursday at lunch where students socialize, discuss various topics and enjoy games. On Thursday June 11 the youth group gathered for a special treat of a KFC lunch. I was pleased to receive an invitation to join them for lunch which was enjoyed by all.
On Thursday June 11 I was pleased to join my great niece Pippa as she celebrated her Confirmation at Sacred Heart Church, Morwell. Bishop Greg Bennet, Bishop of Sale, confirmed her with the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Examine Time
For our students examine time and GAT are now behind them as they look forward to the semester break starting this Thursday. I thought I would add a picture of the Provence Center to give you an idea of how the center is transformed into a space where your son/s gain their examine experience especially for when they reach their higher levels in our college. Thanks always go to the maintenance team for their efforts in setting up the space and then returning it back to its orignal use for multi sports and gathering area.
Mazenod / Rosies Hot Milo
During this term students have been invited to participate in Milo Mornings every Friday at recess to raise money for the Rosies Oblate Street Outreach. The theme is to “Share the Warmth and Ignite Hope.” A gold coin doantion enables our students to express their Social Justice concerns, especially for our fellow brothers and sisters, who are experiencing homelessness, loneliness and hardship in our City of Melbourne. This iniatative povides Rosies with the necessary milk , tea, coffee and milo to share with our Friends on the Street. On belhlaf of Rosies I thanks all our students and staff who have helped organize this initiative and all who have supported it through buying a Milo. Every support helps another!
Till the next time
Yours in Jesus Christ and Mary Immaculate
