World Cup Soccer

Nishan Velupillay (2019) is representing Australia at the FIFA World Cup. Nishan who plays for Melbourne Victory, has represented the Socceroos on six occasions, scoring three goals. He confirmed his position in the squad with an impressive 30-minute performance against Mexico prior to the World Cup tournament.

Nishan was part of Mazenod College’s all conquering 2019 Senior Soccer team coached by Emilio Montoya, which won the Senior ACC title as well as the Melbourne City FC Premier Schools Tournament. Australia plays against Paraguay this Friday June 26. We look forward to following Nishan’s journey throughout the tournament and celebrating his achievements.

Celebrating NAIDOC Week July 5-12

NAIDOC week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. It is celebrated by all Australians and is a great opportunity to recognise and learn more about the history and culture of indigenous communities.

NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. Its origins can be traced back to the Aboriginal rights movement, when on Australia Day 1938, protestors marched through the streets of Sydney to highlight the status and treatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. Today, it is a week-long celebration held in July that consists of range of traditional and contemporary activities.

Beauty and the Beast

This year, the Mazenod-Avila musical, Beauty and the Beast, will be held from Wednesday July 15 to Saturday July 18 at The Alexander Theatre, Monash University, Clayton. I would like to encourage all members of the community to support this event and sincerely hope that you are able to join us at any one of the performances.

Tickets can be purchased using the link below.

Annual Report to the school community

Schools must publish an Annual Report to the School Community (ARSC) each year to meet their state and federal government accountability obligations.

Please see below a link to the final version of the 2025 Annual Report on the College website.

Term 2

Term 2 concludes for students on Thursday June 25, and it has been a busy time for staff and students. Co-curricular activities are important for development and growth, especially during adolescence, and are associated with lower rates of anti-social and risky behaviour, lower rates of academic failure and lower dropout rates. Congratulations to all staff and students for participation in the broad range of co-curricular activities. A reminder that classes resume for all students on Tuesday July 14.

Thank You

Thank you for everything you have done this semester to support Mazenod with the full range of extra-curricular and community events. I hope you have a well-deserved holiday break with your family and friends.

All the best,
