Buroinjin
"Buroinjin" is an indigenous traditional game that was played by the Kabi Kabi people of southern Queensland.
"Buroinjin" has been around for thousands of years and the name “Buroinjin” is named after the exact ball they use. This ball is made of kangaroo skin which is stuffed with grass and sewn tightly together with kangaroo tendons (flexible band of tissue which connects to the kangaroo's leg). This is a fast-packed continuous ball game similar to basketball. Two equal teams carry or pass the ball across the opposing team's end line, which wins them a point. This game has no exact set positions and flows freely with no offside rules. Although a rule of the game is that you can’t kick the ball or hit the ball with a closed fist. This sport is loved by many people and is joyful to play.
Gorri is a traditional bowling and disc game played by boys and men in Central Australia to practise spear throwing. Players roll or throw rounded pieces of bark, while other players try to aim at the moving target and strike it with their own balls or spears. Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal people created this game thousands of years ago, this game was also used to strengthen hand-eye coordination and hone casting skills. This game is many people's favourite and is still played to this day.
