Our Grade 3/4 students had an exciting visit from Cosmodome as they explored the water cycle and weather related events inside the immersive dome. Students discovered how water moves through our environment and influences the weather we experience every day.

The students in 3/4 have been learning about the Water Cycle in Inquiry and the importance of this vital resource. The classes had a fascinating Incursion where they lay inside an inflatable dome and were educated about the water cycle and it's effects on our natural environment, especially when there is too much rain or not enough water.
The Grade 4's have been preparing to make their First Eucharist and have collaborated to make a beautiful art piece for the Church. The students have also been tracking one of their classmates as she travels around Australia on an amazing adventure with her family.

Our Grade 5/6 students have loved Winter Interschool Sport, playing Soccer, AFL, Netball and Softball against local primary schools. The spirit and energy has been exemplary and we congratulate all of OLA athletes.

On the 16th of June the Sustainability Ambassadors went on the Term 2 iSea iCare Workshop to Namatjira Park in Clayton. The focus was on seeing what happens to our rubbish when it has not been put in bins and then goes through storm water drains, ending up in our catchments.

Annabelle
Our first activity was watching how the Council workers use a digger to clean out the stormwater traps that are full with rubbish such as leaf litter and household rubbish. One of the most fascinating facts that we learned was that the council spends around $360,000 a year maintaining drainage nets.
Ava
Our next activity was water testing of the dam where we learned about how healthy the water was by testing the acidity and PH levels of the water. Next we learned about the native frogs that live in our parks and we had to try and identify the specific calls of each frog, using a chart to help us.

Sam
For our last activity we did ponding where we used nets to gather macroscopic insects and bugs which were living in the pond. We used a guide to help us identify the different insects and whether they were sensitive to pollution. We really enjoyed this Workshop, learning alongside students from other schools and we learned lots of fascinating things about our local waterways. It all shows just how important it is to make sure our rubbish goes in bins, to help our waterways and oceans stay clean and healthy, helping our beautiful animals thrive.

Congratulations to the OLA Preps for an amazing assembly. We can’t believe the children have been at school for only two terms! Their confidence in speaking and singing in front of a huge audience was sensational! Thank you Miss Riley, Mrs Montebruno and Miss Levitt for your care and preparation of the students.

Congratulations to our OLA Girls Soccer Team on their fantastic success at the District Girls Soccer competition on Tuesday. The team will now progress to the Division Finals, taking place on Wednesday 29 July at Aspendale Gardens. A huge thank you to Mr Glennon for coaching the girls to victory. Even more impressive, this is back to back District titles for OLA! What an incredible achievement

We celebrate achievements at OLA every day in the classroom. Outstanding achievement is celebrated at every assembly in the front of the school. Congratulations to all the students who received an award last week.
