Storm Boy
Year 4 has also enjoyed reading the Australian novel Storm Boy by Colin Thiele. Throughout the story, students explored themes of friendship, family, courage, nature and caring for animals. The class discussed the special relationship between Storm Boy, his father Hideaway Tom, Fingerbone Bill and Mr Percival, and reflected on the importance of respecting the natural environment. Students showed thoughtful understanding as they shared their ideas and made connections to the characters and events in the novel.
We have begun creating some art work inspired by the pelican Mr. Percival. We look forward to sharing our finished products with you soon.
Optical Illusion Art
Year 4 has been busy creating eye-catching 3D optical illusion artworks using reverse perspective templates. Students carefully coloured their scenes to make the images appear as though they were popping out from the page.
To help increase the 3D effect, students were encouraged to use darker tones in the centre of their image and lighter tones around the outside. This clever technique helped create depth and made the illusion even more effective.
HASS Learnings
In Year 4 Term 2 in HASS we have been learning about First Nations peoples how they use different materials, such as wood, stone, shells, fibres and ochre. We are also learning about the different tools they made and how these tools helped them in everyday life. As a class, we did a big brainstorm to share all our ideas. We then used our brainstorm to help us make posters about our first ideas.
