Community Access: Learning Beyond the Classroom

Community Access: Learning Beyond the Classroom

Our Inclusive Education students have continued to enjoy meaningful learning experiences through our Community Access program. Every fortnight, our support classes head out into the community to develop independence, confidence and important real-life skills while learning how to safely navigate different community environments.

Recently, students explored where some of our food comes from during a hands-on agricultural experience. Students visited a strawberry farm, lettuce farm, egg farm and produce farm, where they had the opportunity to observe farming practices, ask questions and learn more about food production.

Students also practised valuable money and communication skills by purchasing fresh produce to take home. It was wonderful to see students engaging with community members, building confidence and applying their classroom learning in authentic settings.

Another Community Access adventure took students to Bunnings Warehouse, where they explored a wide range of plants, from bonsai to fruit trees, while also purchasing items for their families and pets. Our students represented Cecil Hills High School beautifully, demonstrating respect, independence and positive community participation.

A big thank you to Sydney Strawberry Patch, Fenech Family Farm and Sun's Fresh Farm for welcoming our students and supporting these valuable learning experiences.

Community Access continues to provide our students with opportunities to learn, connect and grow beyond the classroom.
