Year 9/10 STEAM

This term the Year 9/10 STEAM students followed the design thinking process to create an assistive device aimed at improving accessibility and quality of life. Students first had to identify a need then brainstorm a solution. They created and tested a prototype, and then shared their ideas with the class in a 'shark tank' presentation. They received teacher and peer feedback along the way, as well as critically reflecting on whether their product met their design criteria. Designs included a multi-tool prosthetic hand, a sock and shoe device, and a range of fidgets.
Some final reflections:
▪️"I really like our final product, but I would change the material that was used. I learned that something very simple can be popular."
▪️We learnt that we needed to flatten our product on the sides and add magnets to achieve good usage".
▪️"Our concept was cool but it was hard to use the 3D printer"
▪️"Peer feedback is good!!!"
▪️"We had to stay resilient and hopeful, but it came together in the end!'
