Grade 2 Community News

Dear Grade 2 Families,

Term 2 has been going exceptionally well. Our students are becoming more confident with the new maths and literacy routines and are working hard to achieve their learning goals.

In InitiaLit, we’ve been diving into a range of spelling rules and working hard to master them such as ‘ow’ as in ‘cow’ and ‘ou’ as in ‘cloud’. Along with new tricky word ‘build’.

We are currently reading ‘The Day the Crayons Came Home’ by Drew Daywalt to learn and understand our new vocabulary words of; survived, horrified, damage, nursed and desperate.

During comprehension lessons, we were learning about how to ask questions that help our reading. During our grammar lessons, we are learning all about verbs.

Maths

In maths, Grade 2 students are learning to solve Change Problems, explore 3D objects and their features, and read and write 4-digit numbers, even when there's a zero in the hundreds place. They're making great progress!

Knowledge Building

In preparation for our excursion to The Werribee Mansion, we have been deep diving into the history of our local community, including the mansion itself. We have been very busy creating our boardgame for our open day.
