Principal Message

Dear Families,

Health: It appears that the flu season has hit us with many families experiencing some form of illness. This has also occurred amongst staff too and we have had to have more than our ever-reliable CRT’s in to replace teachers. Where possible, we try to have the same CRT in a class for multiple days when staff are unwell. We appreciate your understanding when our regular staff are away unwell.

The Gordon: Works out on the oval along Draper St have started and we look forward to having a new concrete slab (possibly more 4 square courts), a retaining wall with steps and a stage-like structure for kids to dance and have little performances on, are currently under construction. Again, we thank The Gordon for this work and the ongoing relationship with them.

Other works: Various other works have begun around the school with new drain covers being upgraded. The main entrance to school admin will be given a much-needed facelift with the asphalt being removed and new concrete added this week. Alternate paths of travel are highly recommended. Keep your eyes out for the upgrades as they come!

High Abilities: Yesterday I was in attendance in a High Abilities professional learning session with a group of staff to learn more about how we can cater for students achieving well above expected levels. We look forward to elevating the learning for so many across the school. Keep up the great supports at home too.

Concert: Not long til we fill the gym and dance the day away! Dallas has been coordinating STOMP dance sessions with staff supporting extra sessions. Keep your eyes out for messages from Dallas about the concert. See you on Monday seated and ready to go by 1pm!!!

Athletics: Hoping for a great day of weather this Friday as we venture to Landy Field for the House Aths Day. Years 3-6 will be catching buses so don’t be late on Friday and ensure you bring your snacks, lunch and drink bottles!!! Buses are likely to leave from Field St North as many tradies are in Draper St. Warm clothes recommended too! Good luck, Athletes (and Mr Horbury).

Nits: Unfortunately, nits were not eradicated during COVID lockdowns, and we are hearing reports of a few cases. If your child is suspected of having nits, families will be called to collect the child and resolve the issue. We have included a handy link (https://www.health.vic.gov.au/infectious-diseases/head-lice ) for families to refer to for treatment, prevention and much more. Let’s work together as a community to avoid a breakout!

School Uniform: Just a reminder that we have a wide variety of school uniform available online and a small selection of second-hand uniform via the office. We have noticed a bit of an increase of students not wearing the school uniform. If the school jumper etc, is in the wash, please send a note with your child so we are aware as staff will continue to remind students about wearing uniform. Staff have also noticed an increase in smart watches being worn which in turn has increased distractions during learning time. We want the best learning conditions for students and ask families to reconsider sending smart watches to school or at least turn notifications off.

Curriculum Day reminder: Tuesday 10th June (adjacent to the Monarch’s birthday) is a pupil free day where staff will be finalising assessments for reporting mid year achievement. Camp Australia is available should your child need care that day.

Grove-Chella: wishing all attendees to Grove-Chella the very best! Yet another amazing social event for our community to be involved in. Have a great time, meet new people and cement your connections across this amazing community. Thanks to the P&F team for your work - again!

Enjoy the rest of the week!
