Our Learning - Weeks 6 & 7

Here’s a snapshot of all the wonderful learning and activities happening in our classrooms:

Celebrating Cultures | Education Week 2025

This week, Hillsmeade Primary School proudly celebrated Education Week 2025 – Celebrating Cultures, a time to honour the rich diversity that makes our school community so vibrant.

In Year 5, we embraced this theme by sharing stories from our cultural backgrounds, engaging in thoughtful discussions about multiculturalism, and participating in inclusive activities that highlighted the unique voices and traditions within our classrooms.

Our student leaders inspired us with a powerful video on cultural diversity, sparking meaningful conversations about belonging, respect, and identity. We also encouraged students to join in the lunchtime activities, which were a fantastic way to connect across year levels and celebrate together.

English & Cultural Connections

In English, we continued our literacy learning while exploring texts and writing tasks that reflect the diverse cultures represented in our cohort. Students were encouraged to bring their own experiences into their writing, helping us all learn more about each other’s backgrounds and traditions.

Mathematics – Multiplication Mastery

We’ve launched into our multiplication unit in Maths! Students are developing strategies to solve problems efficiently and are encouraged to practise their multiplication facts at home to support their learning. Quick recall of times tables will help build confidence and accuracy in class.

Puberty Education – Learning and Growing

As part of our Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) program, we’ve begun our unit on puberty. Students have been learning about the physical, emotional, and social changes that occur during this stage of life. Through open discussions, videos, and activities like Venn diagrams and the “Dear Abby” task, students are developing a deeper understanding of themselves and others. We’ve also created a Q&A box to ensure students can ask questions in a safe and respectful environment.

Assessment and Personal Bests

We are currently completing a range of assessments in preparation for semester reports. It’s been wonderful to see students striving for their personal bests and reflecting on their growth. We’re proud of the effort and resilience they continue to show.

Sport – Teamwork and Fun Indoors!

Despite the rainy weather, Year 5 sport has remained a highlight! We moved indoors for a fun and energetic House Sport round robin of ‘Hoola Hut’ in the gym. Congratulations to 5C, who were victorious once again!
