Year 4 Update

Our Learning - Weeks 6 & 7
English
In Week 6, students are exploring emotive language in persuasive texts and why it is used. They are also working collaboratively to research debate topics, write structured arguments with supporting evidence, and practice presenting with confidence, tone and eye contact.
In Week 7, the focus will shift to understanding the structure of persuasive texts, identifying strong topic sentences and reasons, and researching reliable information to strengthen their arguments.
Maths
This week, students are deepening their understanding of multiplication by linking it to place value and using strategies to multiply by 3.
Next week, they will apply multiplicative strategies to solve real-world problems and learn how to break arrays into parts to find the most efficient solution.
SEL
In Week 6, students are writing stories about help-seeking that include emotional experiences and positive coping strategies.
In Week 7, they will explore different ways to solve problems and reflect on the possible consequences of those actions.
Humanities
This week, students are learning about democracy and why it is important, including how elections and voting work.
Next week, they will explore different types of voting and work in groups to make fair decisions on community issues.
Hillsmeade Heros!!!
Congratulations to the students recognised this fortnight for demonstrating Hillsmeade’s core values of Kindness, Respect, and Resilience. We are proud of your efforts and the positive example you set for others.
Homework | |
---|---|
Reading | We strongly encourage students to read every night. Please use their diaries to record their reading and ensure they are signed by a parent or guardian before returning to school. |
Maths | We encourage students to regularly practice their times tables at home to build confidence and fluency. This will help them progress through their levels and strengthen their math skills by the end of the year. |
Humanities | Students may receive a Humanities homework task to support their learning in class. We encourage families to have these conversations at home to help students deepen their understanding of identity and history. |
