Attendance
At Solway Primary School, we know that every day of learning matters. While we absolutely understand that children will need to stay home when they are unwell, it is important that, whenever possible, students attend school every day.
Regular attendance builds strong routines, supports academic progress, strengthens friendships, and helps students feel connected to their school community. In 2025, we are aiming to reduce the percentage of students who have 20 or more absences across the year. Based on our attendance data so far this year, at least 20% of our students are currently on track to exceed 20 days absent. This is a concern, as it equates to nearly a full month of missed learning.
We ask families to avoid scheduling family holidays during the school term whenever possible, and to make regular attendance a priority. Even occasional days off can add up quickly and make it harder for students to stay engaged and confident in their learning. If your child’s attendance rate becomes a concern, the school will be in contact to discuss this with you. These conversations are not about blame – they are about working together to identify any barriers and put strategies in place to help support an increase in your child’s attendance. Our goal is to ensure every student has the best chance to thrive socially, emotionally and academically.
Big Freeze
Our amazing SRC is proud to be supporting FightMND as part of The Big Freeze 11 campaign! We are raising funds and awareness for Motor Neurone Disease by selling official Big Freeze beanies and socks at school. All proceeds go directly to FightMND to support research and treatment development. To celebrate our involvement and bring our community together, we will be holding a special Big Freeze Assembly on Thursday
5 June at 2:40pm. We are thrilled to announce that Bec Daniher, Campaign Director at FightMND, will be attending our assembly to speak with our students and be a part of the event. As part of the fun, we'll also be holding our very own Solway PS Ice Bucket Challenge, with some brave staff getting icy for a great cause!
We encourage all students, staff and families to wear their Big Freeze beanies and socks on the day to show their support. Let’s turn Solway blue in support of this important cause!
All parents, carers and family members are warmly invited to attend the assembly and be part of this special school event.
Science Fair
Our students have been hard at work exploring scientific questions, testing hypotheses, and preparing engaging presentations to showcase their learning. The Science Fair is a fantastic opportunity for students to celebrate their curiosity, creativity and problem-solving skills through hands-on experiments and investigations. All families are invited to visit the fair this Friday afternoon from 2:30pm in Learning Room 3.
This year’s Science Fair promises to be a fun and educational experience for all, with a wide range of topics on display from all year levels. We would love to see as many families as possible coming along to support our young scientists and celebrate their incredible efforts.
Cross Country
A huge congratulations to our incredible Solway Primary School Cross Country Team on their outstanding efforts at the recent District Cross Country event! Our students represented the school with pride, displaying excellent sportsmanship, determination, and teamwork throughout the day. They truly embodied our school values – showing respect, resilience, and responsibility in every race and supporting one another across the event.
We are extremely proud to announce that Solway Primary School was named the overall District Cross Country Champions! This is a fantastic achievement and a reflection of the hard work, commitment and positive attitude shown by our team members during training and on the day.
Thank you to all the staff and families who supported the students in the lead-up to the event and on the day itself. Your encouragement and enthusiasm made a big difference.
Well done to every member of the team – we are so proud of you!
Lost Property
As the weather continues to shift, our lost property is rapidly filling up with jumpers, jackets, and hats that have been left behind around the school.
We kindly ask all families to ensure that every item of clothing is clearly labelled with your child’s name. This makes it much easier for us to return lost items to their rightful owners quickly. Unlabelled items are difficult to return and often remain in lost property for long periods. Please take a moment this week to check that your child’s belongings are named — even a quick recheck with a permanent marker can make all the difference.
Thank you for your continued support and lets all strive to be “our best always”.
