Careers News

The Careers Team has officially kicked off the subject selection process for 2026, working closely with Year 10 students to help them start thinking about their future pathways and what they might like to study in Years 11 and 12. In the coming weeks, junior students will also begin a similar process, where they’ll have the chance to select some of their subjects for next year.

Students recently had an opportunity to attend an engaging presentation from Powercor. Wayne, from the local depot, gave an insightful talk about the wide range of career opportunities available within the company. He brought along some hands-on props to demonstrate the kinds of materials employees work with and highlighted not only trade-based roles but also pathways in IT, Engineering, and Business Services. It was a fantastic chance for students to learn more about the diverse career options in the energy sector.

Allied Health Taster Day: Discover Careers Beyond Nursing!

What is Allied Health? Hot tip – it’s not nursing!

Recently, our Careers, Partnerships, and Geared4Careers teams had the exciting opportunity to accompany 12 selected students to an inspiring Allied Health Taster Day. This event was a fantastic collaboration between our school partners, the Goulburn Murray Local Learning and Employment Network (GMLLEN), and The Goulburn Valley Health Hospital. GSSC was proud to be one of only four schools invited to participate in this amazing experience.

During the day, students were introduced to some of the 27 diverse disciplines that make up the Allied Health professions. They rotated through hands-on workshops covering:

  • Medical Imaging
  • Podiatry
  • Speech Pathology
  • Dietetics
  • Psychology
  • Social Work
  • Occupational Health
  • Pharmacy
  • Physiotherapy
  • Exercise Physiology

Our students and staff thoroughly enjoyed learning about these in-demand careers. It became clear that there really is an Allied Health pathway to suit everyone’s skills and interests.

Lunchtime was a treat too—with delicious pizza served as representatives from Melbourne Uni, La Trobe, Deakin, and RMIT Universities made themselves available to chat about Allied Health courses and pathways.

A huge thank you to GMLLEN, GV Health, our dedicated staff, and especially our students who represented GSSC with curiosity and enthusiasm throughout the day.
