EDSC celebrates

'La Festa della Repubblica'

On Monday 2nd June the Italian flag was flown in recognition of La Festa della Repubblica, Italian National day.

Students of Italian across all year levels celebrated La Festa della Repubblica and some were lucky enough to take a photo with the flag outside of the library.

Celebrated each year on 2nd June (il due giugno), La Festa della Repubblica commemorates the institutional referendum of 1946 when Italians voted to abolish the monarchy and establish the birth of an Italian Republic.

It is a national holiday celebrated with official ceremonies, parades, and fireworks, particularly in Rome where the main official ceremony takes place.

The President of the Republic lays a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, a military parade is held and the "Frecce Tricolori" (Italian Air Force aerobatic team) performs a flyover, creating smoke trails in the colours of the Italian flag.

Italians gather with friends and family and celebrate the historical holiday.

"Buona Festa della Repubblica!"
