Over the past four weeks, Year 9/10 Awaken the Spirit RE students have been deeply engaged in Pope Francis' powerful encyclical, Laudato Si, exploring his inspiring call to 'Care for our Common Home’ through Ecological Conversion. Demonstrating remarkable creativity and critical thinking, they identified pressing global environment and human challenges and developed innovative concepts to address them through the lense of theology and science, while aligning the 10 Green Commandments to their invention.
The students shared their learning and innovations through a diverse range of mediums, showcasing their understanding and creativity. They confidently took to the auditorium stage, delivering public speaking presentations using the lectern, microphone and projection to enhance their message. Beyond formal talks, some students conveyed their message through a dramatised play, while others through oral presentation in the classroom. The inventions included:
The Handheld Water Filtration System by Bianca, Mikayla and Maddy,
Seasavers- Ridding the ocean of plastic with a drone by Alana,
CleanETHIOPIA - Safe water solutions by Jessica,
Eco Digestive: Styrofoam eating insects by Lola
BIOSHIELD: Protection against Biological Weapons by Brooke
ECOBloom: Organic fertiliser pills for plants by Emily.
BrightPath Scooter: Pollution free transport by Jasleen.
HydroSphere: Salt Water Filtration Ship by Japleen
A Hope for Compassion: Solving homelessness with pop up accomodation and use of vacant buildings by Jassmeen.

Her Health, Her Future: An informative program to help women around the world worth women’s health.
We were recently visited by the Kildare Ministries Trustees, where Kitty Guerin shared her prayerful reflection on Mary in the Modern World. She wrote:
Far from being an antiquated tradition, devotion to Mary, the Mother of God, continues to shape contemporary Catholic practices, prayers and community life… Mary holds a special place in the hearts of Catholics, offering a maternal presence and spiritual guidance that meets the needs of today’s faithful.
This was the perfect segway into our Yearr 7-11 Student Reflection Day which will be held on Friday 30 May.
Our upcoming Student Reflection Day offers a vital opportunity for students to step away from their regular timetables and focus deeply on their personal faith journeys. These carefully designed spiritual experiences provide a unique moment in time for students to contemplate various images of Mary.
These powerful images, sourced from around the world, beautifully represent the diverse communities that make up Marian College. From Our Lady of Vietnam to African Mary and Aboriginal Mary and Son, students will encounter depictions that reflect their own heritage and broaden their understanding of Mary's universal presence.
Adding to this rich experience, Father Elio Capra will join us to explore sacred art with all students, focusing on specific themes tailored to each year level. This day promises to be a profound experience of reflection, connection, and spiritual growth for everyone involved.
A few of the images being used are as follows:
