State-wide Principal Conference 2025

On Tuesday 3rd and Wednesday 4th the Principal Team had the privilege to attend the State-wide Principal's Conference at the Exhibition Centre. The theme this year was Excellence in every classroom. Ben Carrol MP our Minister for Education opened the sessions and our Keynote was Dr Sonja Hood AM who leads the Scanlon Foundation https://www.scanlonfoundation.org.au/ and is the President of the North Melbourne Football Club. Dr Hood spoke warmly on the topics of Leadership as a facet of learning about yourself and staying true to your values. She advised being a trusting and enabling leader surrounded by the right people to whom you give autonomy.

We then heard from Dr David Howes the Deputy Secretary who spoke on the role of schools and school leaders in this, the second quarter of the 21st Century. He discussed the importance of following current evidence based best practice in education.

We attended sessions across the rest of the program on implementing the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model (VTLM), implementing the Schoolwide Positive Behaviour Model (SWPBM), Digital Technologies and the rise of AI in Education, and working to ensure Child Safe Schools.

Student Achievement Reports - Semester 1, 2025

Individual student reports will be available on the Compass Parent Portal on Friday 27th June at 3.30pm.

In 2025, our Rangeview Student Reports will look different to previous years. This is to compliment the implementation of the new Victorian Curriculum 2.0 in Mathematics and English, as well as our new school values. Schools are required to report student achievement and progress to parents and carers twice a year. Rangeview Primary School’s schedule of reports being released mid-year and at the end of the year, has not changed.

Please see the Teaching and Learning page of this addition for more information.

New Basketball & Netball Rings

Over the long weekend we were pleased to see the installation of new Basketball and Netball rings, nets and backboards. We replaced all of the rings on the grassphalt and also added a Basketball ring to the netball ring on the hub end of the courts. We also replaced the Basketball tower at the top of the Hub on the asphalt, with a lower Junior Tower, for our Junior students.

We are awaiting the new padding for the posts which will replace the old white padding which has seen better days.

A huge thank you to our wonderful Parents and Friends Committee who funded this project - and thank you to the whole community for getting involved in our fundraising activities.

New School Hats

We have been looking into a change of school hats for Rangeview due to the design issues of our current hats. The large flat brimmed hats are not able to be worn when students are participating in fast running sports and are put aside at this time. They are also excellent frisbees and are therefore often involved in minor hits and bumps.

Our School Council has been looking at a new 'bucket' design hat which incorporates one of the four house colours on the inside - which can then be worn inside out for house events. These new hats have been trialled, modelled by students and feedback given, and finally approved by School Council. There is a small price increase for the new design, however the ease of laundering and transporting in school bags, will hopefully result in less appearing in the lost property.

The new hats will be available from September ready for the Summer Term - Term 4. The existing hats can still be worn and are accepted as school uniform for 2 years from this date.

School Vandalism and Break-in

Unfortunately the school experienced some vandalism and a break-in over the long weekend. On Saturday night a group of teenagers entered the grounds and pulled all of the palings off the balcony of the Senior Hub. On Monday night another group of teenagers entered the Level 3 classrooms facing the oval and upended both classrooms and the teacher office.

There is video surveillance footage available for both incidents and the Forest Hill Police are managing the investigation. We thank our Rangeview Community members who alerted us to the damage as soon as it was noticed and who are also providing information to the police. We are always grateful for our supportive community.
