Emotional Regulation - Toolbox Education

Emma from Toolbox Education led a session that began with an activity focused on screen time, where students discussed the impact of notifications and alarms. She then used apps and notifications as metaphors for unhealthy thoughts, guiding the students through examples that many found relatable. Emma encouraged the group to challenge their assumptions, such as believing that someone thinks they are "weird," explaining that such beliefs can't be factual since it's impossible to know another person's thoughts.

Next, students were asked to identify which of two images was AI-generated and which was real, illustrating how easily fact and fiction can be confused. The session concluded with an activity where students analysed a scenario to identify thinking traps that a person might be falling into.

Fire Safety

At Plenty River College, a fire safety program was conducted by the local fire brigade, featuring Steve, Anna, Martine, and Murray. The program educated students on how fires can start at school and at home, emphasising the importance of fire alarms, home escape plans, and the dangers of smoke. Students learned about fire prevention techniques, including safe cooking practices, electrical safety, and the risks of prank calls to emergency services. The session concluded with a hands-on experience where students explored a fire truck, tried on firefighting gear, and used a fire hose.

Sexual Diversity

Kardie from Sexual Health Victoria visited Plenty River College to deliver a presentation on Sexual Diversity. The session provided students with an understanding of the broad spectrum of sexual identities. They also viewed videos featuring individuals sharing their personal journeys and challenges related to their sexualities.

This presentation is part of our ongoing efforts to promote inclusivity and respect within our school community.
