State Cross Country
Congratulations to Ruby D, who for the 2nd year in a row competed at the State Cross Country Championships. Fantastic Achievement. Looking forward to see if you can make it 3 times in a row in 2025.
Term 2 Interschool Sports District Finals
The girls netball, boys teeball and girls teeball qualified for finals after a strong season in Term 2. The netball team made the grand final after beating Viewbank in the semi-final. The girls had to play Rosanna Golf Links and after losing heavily in the season knew the players who had to be kept quiet. The third quarter RGL piled on some heavy pressure scoring 8-1 and the girls were not able to close the deficit in the 4th qtr.
The girls teeball team were beaten in the semi-final against the eventual winners Viewbank. The boys teeball team beat Rosanna in the semi-final, although a few mistakes almost cost them. In the final they played Viewbank and Heidelberg boys played the best game they had played all season to win and qualify for Division.
Division Teeball - Boys
The grade 6 boys in week 2 went to Rosanna PS to play in the Division Finals. They had been one of the strongest teams throughout the term 2 ISS season and after playing their best game in the District grand final they were hoping to take this form into Division. They came up against a strong St Bernadettes side, and unfortunately Heidelberg lost to the better team on the day.
Division Soccer – Girls
The girls had to face Ivanhoe Girls Grammar in their first match. The game was very even and at half time was 0-0. The second half started and after a little mistake, the ball was turned over and Ivanhoe put the ball into the bottom corner. The goal sparked some energy into Heidelberg girls and although they had some chances, the girls were not able to equalise. 1-0 Ivanhoe Girls Grammar.
The girls second game against St Marys, they knew they had to win to have any chance of qualifying for Region. HPS started strong but was not able to find the back of the net although there was plenty of chances. A couple of changes in the second half changed the tone of the game and the back of the net was found by HPS. We won 2-0.
Our fate was in the hand of St Marys. If they beat Ivanhoe Girls Grammar by 1 goal we were through. With 2 minutes to go St Marys scored, however with a minute left on the clock Ivanhoe levelled the score to take it to penalties. Ivanhoe were the shootout winners and finished Division champs.
Snr Hoop Time
The rookie team made up 5 girls and 5 boys from Grade 5 and 6 played against all the other schools in the district. The girls played a half and then the boys played a half. For this team it was all about experience basketball for the first time.
The All Star Boys had a tough day against some strong competition. They played well together, remained upbeat throughout the day and demonstrated great sportsmanship.
The All Star Girls had some grade 6 students who had played in the grand final in 2023 as grade 5s. The team gelled from the first game, winning all but one group game. The final was going to be tough as it was against a very skilled and well drilled Rosanna Golf Links side, and half of that team beat HPS in the 2023 grand final. History repeated and although this year we were more competitive, Golf Links were just too strong. Well done to the girls for finishing 2nd, 2 years in a row.
Jnr Hoop Time
The rookie team had a great day being immersed in basketball for the first time. They finished the day winning 2 and losing 2.
The Future Stars team made up of both boys and girls with basketball experience played 3 group games, losing 1 and winning 2. They qualified for the grand final against the strong
team they lost to in the group stages. The team put up a fight, but the opposition was more accurate. Fantastic achievement finishing 2nd, as it was the first time the students played together.
The All Star Boys made up of grade 3 and 4 students managed to remain unbeaten during their group games and qualify as the top seed. The Grand Final against Banyule was a very tight contest. The game finished level requiring extra time. After the 3 minutes the teams could still not be split, and Golden point was required. The boys won the jump ball and had the chance to win it but a missed shot and then foul resulted in Banyule having a free throw and scoring the first shot. Although they finished 2nd the boys have received a Wildcard entry to the Region finals next term.
The All Star Girls made up of grade 4 students, put up some big scores in their games and
defended superbly. They went into the Grand Final having only conceded 4 points in 3 games. They played Banyule in the final and beat them 18-3, qualifying for Regional Finals next term.
Division Athletics
23 students attended the day competing in various track and field events. We had 3 girls 4x100m relay teams competing and with a strong chance of finishing 1st or 2nd to qualify for Regional Finals. The girls all ran extremely well, with 2 teams 3rd and another team finishing 5th. Well Done girls.
Some students had success in individual field events finishing 1st or 2nd to qualify for Regional Finals. Congratulations to the following students:
- Quinn D: Discus 1st
- Patrick B: Shot Put 1st
- Harun I: Long Jump 2nd
- Patrick HB: Shot Put 2nd
- Genoah S: High Jump 2nd, Discus 2nd
Well Done to everyone who competed and represented HPS at Division Athletics.
