Wellbeing - Senior School
Last Tuesday members of the College’s Wellbeing Team had the opportunity to hear from John Brogden and notable Australians at the launch of his new book Profiles in Hope. At our school, we are committed to the wellbeing of every student. We understand that depression is a serious issue that can affect anyone, including our students. The intention of the book is to inspire hope for those who are experiencing or have experienced challenges in life. It's important to know that help is available and that no one has to face their struggles alone.
As the former Lifeline Australia Chair and previously, Leader of the NSW Opposition, John Brogden has openly shared his journey through depression. His story is a powerful reminder that mental illness can affect anyone, regardless of their success or status. John’s advocacy has helped change the conversation around mental health, encouraging more people to seek help and support. Familiar names such as James Packer, Jacqui Lambie, Tom Boyd, Layne Beachley, Preston Campbell and Ian Thorpe, provide powerful and deeply personal accounts of their struggles with depression.
Lifeline Australia is a national charity providing 24/7 crisis support. They offer confidential support through phone calls, online chats, and text messages. During the keynote speeches it was amazing to learn that only two weeks ago the organisation answered close to 4,000 calls in a single day.
So, if you are feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or depressed, please remember that you are not alone. Students are encouraged to reach out to a trusted teacher, Year Coordinator, Counsellor, or contact Lifeline at 13 11 14 or visit their website for more resources. The College Diary [pages 45 and 163] has contact details for other organisations who can provide support. Together, we can continue to provide a supportive environment where everyone feels safe and valued.
Stay strong and take care of each other.
