Literacy For the Holidays:

Spring is in the air! It has been wonderful to see students across Dana Street locking into their literacy learning. Writing cycles have explored a range of genres and the students have continued to WOW us with their published pieces.  The effort that students have applied in developing both their reading and writing skills this term has been fantastic to see across the school from Foundation to Year 6.  As you ready yourselves for the holiday season and a well-deserved rest, you might be wondering what you can do over the break with regards to literacy?  Here are some ideas that might be useful:

  • A book report about your favourite holiday text
  • A movie review
  • Comic strips
  • Diary entries
  • A procedure that you completed
  • https://thekidshouldseethis.com/ is an award-winning website with a collection of over 6,000 child-friendly videos.  Lots of discussion can come out of these videos and possibly a report?
  • Look at favourite songs at home to find rhyming words, count syllables, find affixes… you could even try and write your own songs!
