Secondary Student Leadership

Michael Halliday, Head of Senior Secondary

This year we have been blessed to have a fine group of student leaders in our College. Student leadership is about students influencing the culture of the College to promote what we value (and learning how to do that).

The 2024 student leaders have been involved with running assemblies, organising lunchtime activities, leading House teams, writing scripts, mentoring Year 7s, fundraising, coordinating Battle of the Bands, producing newspapers and looking after our environment. And that’s only some of their many roles! All our student leaders have shown an amazing ability to bring the school community together in significant ways throughout the year.

As a school, we will have the opportunity to pay tribute to our 2024 student leaders at the first secondary assembly next term. We will also be launching the search for our next group of Student Leaders for 2025.

So, what are we looking for?

Students who are:

  • passionate about making DCC a great community
  • willing to uphold and promote the Christian values, ethos and mission of the College
  • excellent role models in behaviour and attitude
  • able to demonstrate qualities such as reliability, persistence, humility, self-confidence, approachability, independence and initiative
  • organised
  • able to work together as a team

What Student Leadership positions are available in 2025?

Student Council:

  • College Captains & Vice Captains
  • Year Level Representatives (Year 10 & 11)

Student Leadership Teams:

  • House Captains
  • Faith & Mission Leaders
  • Care & Wellbeing Leaders
  • Environment Leaders

Faculty Student Leaders:

  • Sport Captains
  • Music Captains
  • Arts Captains
  • English Captains
  • STEM Captains

I would encourage all senior students to pray and think carefully about whether a Student Leadership position is an area where they can make a difference in the culture of our school. It is a valuable opportunity to learn about leadership and for individuals to develop their God given skills and abilities.

Further details about the application process will be discussed early next term. I look forward to seeing what the 2025 Student Leaders can bring to our school community and the ways in which they learn and develop leadership in the areas they are responsible for.
