There's Always A Can In The Can't

After watching the 2024 Paris Olympics over the past weeks, it's hard not to be inspired by the countless stories of resilience many athletes have endured in reaching their elite sporting status. As I intently listened to the journey many athletes have undertaken to reach the Olympics, the common thread woven throughout each was the need to face challenges head on, in order to overcome them. This same principal is not only essential to apply to our lives as adults, but to intentionally sow into the world of our children.
Therefore, as we have travelled through the adventures of Term 3, we have continued to tune into our individual and collectively ability to 'Do Hard Things'. Each weekly focus has been a wonderful opportunity to thoughtfully consider another item we can add to our 'backpack' of strategies when taking on life's adventures.
Seeking Christ in all things, we use our mistakes as opportunities to learn, taking time to be actively aware of our body’s physical response to challenges and the strategies we can employ to alleviate these. We've considered the journey of learning, growth and how we keep ourselves regulated and in the best zone to proactively tackle various circumstances. There is always a can in the can't!
As our term draws to a close we are all called to 'Do Hard Things' and find the can in the can't. The best and most beautiful news though, is that we serve a God who never asks us to do those things alone. He is good, He is faithful and He has a plan for our lives that far exceeds anything we can hope or imagine.
For the past 8 years, I've had the absolute privilege and blessing to serve as the Head of Junior Primary and for the past two years as Deputy Head of Primary. This has been the most beautifully rich opportunity to serve in amongst this truly unique and special community. While we are all at different stages on our learning journey and as mine leads me away from DCC for a small season, I want to thank our parents, students and most incredibly dedicated staff for all being willing to venture through the celebrations and challenges, in partnership together.
My ongoing hope and prayer is that through each and every season, we never lose sight or take for granted, the incredible honour it is to walk alongside each other, grounded in Christ through this adventure called life!
There is always a CAN in the can't.
