On Friday, 30 August, six of our school’s top mountain bike riders travelled to Canberra to compete in the 2024 ACT Schools Mountain Bike Championships. Out of seven teams, our senior team, made up of Eli, Ned, and Ethan L, secured an impressive 3rd Place, with Ethan’s exceptional bike control shining through on the challenging course.
In the junior team, Levi wowed everyone with his technical skill, hitting some incredible scrubs as he reached the top of the hill just in time for Tom to squeeze in another lap, helping the team achieve a massive total of 10 laps. Sim tore through the rollers like a seasoned pro, while Tom took on the pump track with ease.
The boys returned home injury-free, bringing back not only their achievements but also the memories of an unforgettable experience. We look forward to sending even more teams to this exciting event in the future!

On Tuesday 10 September the inaugural Primary South Coast Zone Basketball Gala Day took place at the Shoalhaven Indoor Sports Centre in Bomaderry. Five Christian schools from the local area gathered together to play competitive matches of basketball with one another. NCS sent both Year 6 boys and Year 6 girls teams.
The girls played four matches (about 2 hours in total) with only 6 players (one sub) and gave a sterling account of themselves. They were competitive in their matches scoring double figures in all games. Amelia P, Keida-Rose K, Ida C, Kaylee T, Shyloh S and Chelsea T ended the day puffed out, but content, knowing they'd given their best efforts in their matches.
The boys started the day by registering two victories, with Toby G and Will P top scoring, both into double figures of points by half way through the day. After a break the team came back and were eventually beaten by a solid Southern Highlands team. In their last match, against the eventual champions, our boys were gracious in defeat, knowing they'd played their best. They finished with double figures on the scoreboard, a feat not many teams had managed against their opponents, Cedars.
Noah G, Hudson F, Hunter P, Levi H, Alex W and Will A were the other members of our boys team. Everyone shone in different ways, playing their positions to the best of their abilities. They also had tremendous fun and positive team spirit.
Special thanks to our student coach, Nathan N from Year 11 who gave up his time to accompany the team today and also many lunchtimes in the months leading up to the competition with training sessions. Thanks also to Brendon H who helped referee and score some of the games. Also thanks to Belle Y (Year 7), who refereed many games throughout the day and gave great account of herself. Big thanks to parents and grandparents who came to watch and encourage our students during the day. Much appreciated.
My 'fave' moment of the day was when a fellow teacher from one of the other schools said how lovely and encouraging our players were in terms of behaviour and attitude on court. I can attest to that and to their excellent conduct off the court too. It was indeed a pleasure to take our students to this excursion. They are a credit to their parents and our school. Well done, everyone!

'The price of Brendan's and the other chairs" Heidi
'The most surprising thing was how fun it actually was in the wheelchairs and learning a new way to play basketball.' Jude
'Pretty eye opening about doing this activity then knowing we can still move our body's and some people can not do that.' Sim
'That you can drift in wheelchairs' Jaxon P
'How different it is from normal basketball in terms of strategy.' Koby
'I found it surprising how much fun it can be to play wheelchair sports but also challenging and Brendon gave good advice about being safe.' Grace P
'How hard it is to dribble the ball' Faith
'Everyone had to be patient with each other and wait until they learnt how to manoeuvre their wheelchairs, I think everyone should have the same patience in every sport.' Lila
'The most surprising thing during the Wheelchair sports was that the wheelchairs didn’t have brakes, you had to use the wheels to slow down.' Grace McD
'How much you have to use your arms while playing wheelchair basketball' Georgia
The recent CSSA Secondary Zone Basketball Gala Day was a challenging but rewarding experience for the Nowra Christian School Secondary basketball teams. Despite facing tough competition, our teams played with heart and determination throughout all four games.
Although we didn't secure a win, the day was filled with memorable moments and valuable lessons. Jai, one of our team's standout players, reflected on the experience, saying, “Overall the day was a fun and enjoyable time with my buddies."
Each game presented its own unique challenges, but our players never backed down. We showed incredible sportsmanship, encouraging each other and maintaining a positive attitude even in the face of defeat. While the scoreboard may not have been in our favour, the tournament was a great opportunity to grow our skills. The team gained experience, laying the foundation for future success. As Laurie put it, "We didn’t come away with the win, I scored zero points but it was good fun."
In the end, the Zone Basketball GD was about more than just winning. It was about coming together as a team, having fun and learning from each experience. We are proud of our players for their effort and dedication and we look forward to seeing how they continue to develop in the future.

During Term 2, the Stage 5 PASS class studied the module 'Physical Fitness,' where they gained in-depth knowledge and understanding of physical activity, fitness and its key components. We capped off this unit with an exciting trip to Pumpin' Iron Gym in South Nowra, where students had the chance to put their learning into action. They thoroughly enjoyed the experience, making the most of the weights floor, cardio room, CrossFit area and boxing studio.
The NCS Open boys and girls soccer teams competed at Ian McLennan Park against ICS, Cedars and Calderwood during Term 2.
The girls team had faced a tough set of games, resulting in two losses and a draw with ICS. Despite the challenging outcomes, they cherished the experience of playing together and the effective communication they developed. The team enjoyed the games and valued the sense of the support amongst them.
On the other hand, the boys team had a great performance, ultimately qualifying for the State Finals tournament with Ethan L (Year 11) scoring the winning goal.
Their coaches praised both teams' exceptional effort and skill, highlighting the memorable and exciting nature of their matches. Both teams gained valuable experiences and great memories from their time at the Park, with the girls appreciating their teamwork and the boys celebrating a significant achievement.

On Monday 19 August I went to Netball Central (at Sydney Olympic Park) to participate in the CIS Netball Challenge Day. The 15 Years & Under CSSA team consisted of ten girls from all over NSW. We won three games out of five which put us in third place at the end of the day. Third place is the best result the CSSA team has ever had at the competition. It was really cool to be playing with the girls at such a high level, it was such an incredible experience.
