Kitchen Garden

4C & 4S

4C

On Monday 4C enjoyed a session in the garden, working together in groups to complete some garden activities.

Some groups removed spent pea, cauliflower and broccoli plants from the garden and chopped them up for the compost bins. Another group, excitedly dug up over 100 potatoes, while some students got creative and painted some rocks to decorate our garden with.

4S

On Wednesday 4S has their last kitchen garden session. This term 4S have been growing and caring for a mushroom kit from the Australian Mushroom Growers Association. To celebrate their success, the plan was to make mushroom pizzas in the garden. However, the weather had other ideas and the rain made us move indoors.

In the kitchen, 4S worked together in small groups to make a mushroom pizza to share. The pizzas were enjoyed and mushrooms aren’t that bad after all! They also painted some rocks to decorate areas of the garden and potted up a seedling punnet with bean seeds which we’d saved from last seasons crop. I hope you have fun growing your beans at home 4S. Remember keep the soil damp, have them in a well lit area and transplant them into a garden when the bean seedlings reach about 5-10cm.

Thank you to all the wonderful helpers who help guide the students with activities in the Kitchen Garden program.

They love sharing the fun with you.

Happy cooking and gardening,

Allesha
