Integrated Studies

By Deborah, 6SC, and Matilda, 6SB

In Weeks 2 and 3, Grade 5 & 6 students had an incredible incursion called The Launch. Students got to design and make a prototype of a new product that could be sold at Kmart. Every group was given a mystery bag that contained a range of materials, including pipe cleaners, popsicle sticks, a paper plate, and a cup, which they could use to make their product prototype. Towards the end of the session, all groups presented their product pitch. Most of the 5/6 cohort said the best part was presenting their group’s product to the rest of their year level.

Literacy Overview

By Zavier, 6SC

Over the past few weeks, we have continued our study of Shaun Tan’s The Red Tree. In particular, we have explored the book’s illustrations, identifying the techniques used and developing a shared language to discuss visual storytelling. Students have also begun writing their own narratives inspired by the prompt “The Hat.” Throughout the term, we will continue to refine these pieces as we explore the elements that make an effective story.

Check out the the photos below of 6SC making the most of the spring sunshine while completing their Book Club session outside!
