INTEGRATED

Our Term 4 integrated focus is 'Frame by Frame', where students will practice thinking creatively as they explore different ways to tell stories and develop a stop-motion animation.  They will create a simple story and learn how to use a storyboard. Students will build a character and a set for their stop-motion animation and practice photographing and editing an animation using the Stop-Motion Studio Application.

As part of our exploration students will be answering the following essential questions:

  • How can we tell stories in creative ways?
  • How can we work collaboratively to create a stop-motion animation?
  • How do storytellers develop character and settings?

Students have started the term by learning about animation and how animators generate ideas.  They have experimented with developing storyboarding and creating flip books.

Students are very excited about our stop-motion incursion later in the term! Stay tuned for more news on this front...

Here are a few clips about animation, showing how ideas are sketched when creating feature films and a quick video showing you how to make a flip book.  You might like to create some at home!

MATHEMATICS

Over the last few weeks, students have been rising the mathematical operation of division, as well as exploring data and statistics!

Students have been working on using the vertical algorithm to divide 2- and 3-digit numbers, with and without renaming, with and without remainders and next week we will be learning all about fractional remainders!

In our applied mathematics sessions, our Grade 3/4s have been exploring how to conduct mathematical investigations, which involved acting as researchers  collecting data in order to answer a question, presenting their data as a visual representation and then interpreting and discussing the information that has been created.

LITERACY

In reading, students have continued reading our class mentor text, Brindabella. The last two weeks students have analysed the setting and mood of our story and how sound can provide readers with information to help them visualise, the relationship of our main character to the setting, understanding narrative perspective and anthropomorphism!

Grade 3/4s have also been learning about the features of a narrative text, experimenting with writing descriptive words to create dynamic characters, interesting settings and intriguing plots!

WELLBEING

Over the course of last term and the beginning of this term, students have been exploring a range of strategies they can use to assist with self-regulation.

Students have tried some calming tools such as breathing, sensory and movement breaks, as well as thinking strategies such as 'How big is this problem?, 'Inner Crtic vs. Inner Coach' and 'Superflex vs. Rock Brain'.

Students were asked to identify which Zone/s each toold would be most useful for and over the next few weeks students will be creating their own personal tool box, full of strategies they can draw upon when they need to self-regulate! Ask you child about them... might even like to give them a go at home!
