Heads of Secondary Years' Report

To our wonderful Hazel Glen community,

Today is World Teachers' Day! While we certainly recognise all of the work our teachers do across the year, it is nice to have one special day each year to remind us to acknowledge our wonderful teachers.

As we celebrate World Teachers’ Day, we take a moment to acknowledge the dedication, passion, and hard work of our teaching staff. Teachers play a vital role in shaping the lives of our students and creating an environment where students can thrive. Their commitment goes beyond the classroom, inspiring curiosity, resilience, connection and kindness within our College community. On this special day, we express our gratitude to all our educators for their invaluable contribution to educating, supporting and inspiring our students and nurturing them to reach their full potential.

Term 4 is always such a rewarding term here at Hazel Glen College, as we have the privilege of celebrating so many events. Our Year 12 students enjoyed their Celebration Day with a wonderful dress-up parade, tree planting and a perfect day at Funfields on the 21st October. Their celebration was quickly moved to focus as our Year 12 VCE students prepared to start their exams on Tuesday of this week.

The first HGC VCE Theatre Studies class hosted their performance evening on Monday 20th and not only was it a fabulous performance for those in attendance, our students also displayed a wonderful sense of community and connection. These events remind us that being at HGC is about so much more than just what happens in the classroom.

We held the 2026 Year 7 Information Evening on the 22nd October for the students starting Secondary Years at Hazel Glen College next year. This will be our graduating class of 2031! There was certainly a mix of excitement and nerves as they prepared to embark on this next phase of their educational journey.

Last night we were treated to the Performing Arts Academy showcase evening and this event provided another opportunity for us to celebrate the hard work and talent of our students.

I am sure you have all heard about the whole College evacuation that was held on

Tuesday 21st October. These drills may not be very exciting, but they are an important aspect of school life and essential to support us in keeping your children safe. This was an off-site evacuation for the whole College and we are really happy to report that it went very well.

Don't forget to check the Key Dates section at the back of this newsletter and recent Compass newsfeeds for important dates and information relating to exams and 2026 Early Start programs.

Enjoy the long weekend and we look forward to seeing you at the College Art and Tech Show next Thursday, the 6th November.
