Religious Education News

Mr Andrew May

The start to Term 4 has been a busy one, but has also been an uplifting and prayerful period, reflecting the core of our Catholic identity through worship, mission, and learning.

We recently celebrated the Commissioning Mass for our newly elected School Captains and student leaders in our College Chapel. This beautiful liturgy led by Fr Eli provided a powerful opportunity for our community to pray for and support those who have stepped up to serve the College in the coming year, guided by Gospel values and commitment.

Complementing this focus on leadership through faith, our 7 - 10 students were able to visit an exhibition dedicated to Saint Carlo Acutis here at the College. The highlight of the event was their participation in Eucharistic Adoration, offering a quiet, reverent moment of prayer and reflection, much like the young Carlo himself promoted. This was a profoundly moving experience for many of our young people. The exemplary conduct of our young people was noted by the members of the Immaculata Community who presented the exhibition and led the Adoration in the Chapel.

October, traditionally the Month of the Rosary, has seen a focus on Marian devotion across our junior classes. Students have been learning about the history and significance of the Rosary, and many have participated in praying this beautiful prayer, which helps us connect with the life of Christ. This devotion connects deeply with our ongoing efforts to support the wider Church. We continue to drive our mission awareness through fundraising for Catholic Mission, knowing that every dollar raised supports vital outreach, education, and development projects globally, truly putting our faith into action. Through this we try to live our Jesus’ teaching of compassion for the needy in our world, when he told his disciples that every time they fed the hungry, clothed the naked, visited the sick or comforted the prisoners, they did it to him (Matthew 25).

Finally, we offer a huge congratulations to our Year 12 HSC Studies of Religion students. They have officially concluded their demanding course and sat for their final examination recently. We are incredibly proud of their dedication and commitment to the course over the past two years.

We are grateful for all the ways our school community lives out the Gospel. May we continue to grow in faith, prayer, and service throughout the rest of the year.

Keeping in touch with what is happening in the Cathedral Parish is easy through their website and Facebook pages.

With such a difficult year and a half it has been harder for parishioner's to give to the parish through the plates, particularly when the church is closed as it is at present. The Parish account details are available on the Parish bulletin.
