November: A Month of Remembrance

In the Catholic tradition, November is a special time to remember those who have died. It begins with All Saints’ Day on 1 November, when we honour all the saints in heaven, followed by All Souls’ Day on 2 November, when we pray for loved ones who have passed away. Many churches display names of the departed so the community can keep them in their prayers.

All Saints’ Day

All Saints’ Day celebrates the lives of saints, both well-known and those without a special feast day. It reminds us to follow their example of kindness, courage and faith. The celebration began many centuries ago and helps us reflect on how we can live good and holy lives too.

All Souls’ Day

On All Souls’ Day, we pray for people who have died, especially those who are still on their journey to heaven. Families often visit graves and offer prayers. It’s a time to show love and care for those who have gone before us, and to remember that our prayers can help others.

Go gently and be well,
