 Foundation

Welcome back to Term 4!

It has been truly wonderful to see just how smoothly the Foundation students have returned back to school. The students jumped straight into learning some more letters and the sounds that they make. This week they learnt about the two letters 'qu' make the 'kw" sound. The students learnt about the meaning of some words like quest, quit, quick and quack and are getting really good at sounding out the words.

Keep it up, Foundation!

Year 1

I can't believe we are already in term 4!!! These beautiful year one's have come back to school settled and ready to learn!

In Maths, we have been learning how to collect data through surveying. Everyone has collected their own data and recorded it using tally marks.

HOMEWORK

I have also sent home our new homework sheets for the term. Please continue to read each night as well. If you have any questions please do not hestitate to ask.

Year 2/3

This week the year 2/3's have hit the ground running and picked up from where they left off.  They have done a marvelous job in their Inquiry lessons this week, where they have continued to research their chosen inquiry topic from the many topics they learnt about last term. They have been busy researching and preparing engaging presentations. They have been working hard to make sure that they are gathering information from reputable sources and that they are presenting their information in an engaging way. The excitement is building and they are looking forward to showing you all their hard work very soon!

A little sneak peak of what some of the presentations look like:

Year 3/4

Exciting things are happening in the Year 3/4's.

Long Day (at school) is happening on the Tuesday 21st October until 6:30 pm. The students will come in casual clothes and do some fun activities together.  We will also be going to Wyncity Bowling Keon Park in Thomastown.

Reconciliation- the Catholic students in Year 3 as well as a couple of Year 4's will be making their Reconciliation on Tuesday 28th October. This will be their first sacrament in their Faith Journey.

Writing

A writing technique called 'Explode the Moment' allows students to take one moment in time and using their senses, their thoughts and emotions to make it a more interesting writing piece. This week in Y3/4 we used this technique to write about something they did on the holidays. This is a small example of the students writing.

Yarra Valley Chocolate Factory by Suzie

I was really excited because I could smell the delicious chocolate. I went in a room and I made chocolate and got to taste the yummy chocolate. It was like a creamy taste, a sweet yummy taste. I also saw chocolate that was shaped into names.

Science Discovery by Jazlyn

On the school holidays I went to a place called Science Discovery Center. There was a slide called the Vertical slide. My mum told me to go down the slide. I was terrified, I said I can’t do it. But then I slid down the slide, I was frightened. I heard screaming and it was the other people going down the slide. Then I went home frightened.

IKEA by Ava

Mmmm, this is great food. It’s smooth and good, I wanted to devour it all. It is mashed potatoes. I could hear the noisy shoppers in the background. I like to eat Swedish food.

Mini Golf by Sharlotte

On Tuesday in the holidays, I went to mini golf. I told my mum “I really want to go to mini golf,” then we went there. I was thinking, in the car, in my head “I really hope I can beat my brother in how fast I could be.” When we were there I heard lots of strangers laughing. Then I started and I was hitting the golf club, playing with the ball. The ball was going in and around each and every obstacle. When we finished I had beaten my brother. Then we had coke, sitting on the chairs. First I was excited and happy but later I was proud and very, very exhausted.

Treetop Adventure Park by VIraj

ZIP! I was high above the trees on a zipline. This is the best ride ever!. Later I was doing this scary obstacle course with thin bridges, ziplines and wobbly platforms. I was half paralysed with fear and half very happy and loving it.

Year 4/5

With a busy last term ahead of us, Year 4/5 have hit the ground running. already well into the first novel classroom reading of Term 4, Thomas Appleby Convict Boy by Jackie French. It tells the story of a young eight year old boy in 1780's England, who is convicted of stealing and sentenced to deportation to Botany Bay.

Year 5/6

Welcome back to the final term of the year!!

The students in 5/6 this week have created some SMART goals that they will aim to have achieved by the end of the term. With the grade 6 students moving onto the next big chapter of their lives next y, it is a great opportunity for them to have a final and lasting impact on the great Sacred Heart school community. While for the grade 5 students, it acts as a chance to build and display their leadership/communication skills for next year.

Each student had to create a goal in the areas of Social, Wellbeing and Learning.

What is a SMART Goal?

Specific- What do you want to achieve?

Measurable- How will you know when you have achieved it?

Action- What are you going to do to achieve your goal?

Realistic/Relevant- Is this goal achievable? Why is this goal important?

Time- When will you review your goal to see if you have achieved it?
